break into the clubhouse behind Als and steal some anti acne cream, then go to richies and chat up Mr C.

Ronan, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Go to a dermatologist, if it's still a big problem.

Michael Daddino, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Whatever happened to mid 90s metal merchants Misery Loves Co.? Their lead singer had awful acne.

vic, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a full answer, but things I’ve found helpful include wet-shaving, using Cidal soap and washing with a shaving brush.

Identity Censored, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wet shaving, really? Do you mean like with one of those creamy thingies that look like chantilly or just plain water?

vic, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Personal to mark s: I have a framed original one-sheet of "Black Sunday" in my living room.

Sean, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Use paper -- not cloth -- towels to dry your face.

felicity, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Use soap for a proper lather as well.

Pete, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

drink lots of water, don't eat crappy junk food and wash your face every night before putting on a mix of sweet almond oil with a few drops of lavender/bergamot/tea tree oil in.

katie, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Though I don't see what is wrong with acne. I think it looks nice, and squeezing a partners spots can be just as intimate as a snog.

Pete, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

try not to touch your face, as that'll spread bacteria and stuff, not that I'm saying your hands are filthy or anything!

jel --, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Make your doctor give you medicine. Things you put on your face only work on very mild acne / the odd spot here & there. Also junk food / chocolate / chips do not give you spots (though they might make you fat).

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well, thats no problem cos im already fat. The idea that the acne crean doesnt work properly is scary for me

vic, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well the ones you buy in chemists are only good for mild acne like I said. You can get topical treatments from the doctor that work better. There are tons of things the doctor can give you, or they can refer you to a dermatologist. It is worth making the effort if acne is making you miserable.

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

PTEE IS A VERY WRONG MAN.

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's also (thankfully for all of us) a very single man.

Yes, regularly washing is best, make sure you get your face right under the shower. T-Zone Tea tree oil spot zapping stick is ace.

(NB I never remember to do any of this, and also have been living in the poor house recently)

Graham, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've got some old topical treatment still from when I had acne in the late eighties. I found it in a drawer the other day. It was still doing jokes about Margaret Thatcher - not so bloody topical anymore I thought as I threw it in the bin.

Pete, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I didn't see that coming from about 4,000 miles off.

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was very disappointed noone else did it actually.

Pete, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete is holding aloft a red flag of easy jokes to the bull of ILE.

Emma, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't really know who Peter Noone is and therefore can't make an effective joke about him (besides noting that he smells like wee).

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

These days, probably (Noone = lead singer of Herman's Hermits, a British Invasion band so thoroughly twee and cheery that Belle and Sebastian could beat them up).

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Ned, but who is he as a person? What are his hopes, his dreams, his fears? All this I must know before I can make a joke about ILE watching him come from 4000 miles away.

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGHHHHHHH.

Sorry, I just had to say that.

He dreams in color and he eats paint. Are you happy?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ARGHHHHHHH.

Okay, so Ned was watching. Anyone else?

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course I'm watching you, I have to keep track of you.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, I meant you were watching Peter Noone come from 4000 miles away, hence the groans of lust. (Note to the folks playing along at home: I AM NOT PETER NOONE.)

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

YOU MISTAKE MY INTEREST IN THIS MATTER.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(hee hee hee...)

bigass zit, not big ass zit

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Get some cotton pads and apply tea tree oil over the spot. It usually does the trick.

dermatology. i had it so bad during formative years--13-17, all over my face, chest, and back--i think it ruined my life. the dermatologist prescribed me benzamycin which took care of it in a month. alas, it is too late for me. but maybe not for you

Is this a pimple on my ELBOW??

guys just take accutane. it's like agent orange for your face

river wolf, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

Also, this sounds weird, but if you get an occasional unsightly zit, use a swab or q-tip and put some EYE DROPS (like the stuff that Ben Stein used to do adverts for, red itchy eye shit) on it. gone within 12 hours, never to be seen (even in scar form) again. a dermatologist told me to do that!

(back in the day. haven't had any acne issues in years)

my friend had really bad acne, which seemed to get a lot better after she started using sunscreen everyday - apparently it's the zinc. so maybe a zinc supplement?

Rubyred, Sunday, 10 June 2007 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Oh my fucking god, from acne.org comments on zinc:

I got some zinc amino chelate about a week ago and ever since ive been taking 50 mgs a day my complexion has been getting better and I haven't broken out.

Did you know when you ejaculate you lose like 5 mgs of zinc, so thats kinda alot when you think about how much zinc your body absorbs without taking a supplement (its usually less than that a day). So you might not want to jerk off like everyday if you have a zinc deficiency.

Abbott, Sunday, 31 August 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

i found the only thing to stop acne was to stop using anti-spot treatment of any kind. Now if I use facewash within days I'll have acne.

Accutane is seriously awesome. Like, literally--I never thought I would stand in awe of an rx drug. But I do!

quincie, Monday, 1 September 2008 11:48 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think I should take anything that has a side effect of 'suicidal thoughts and tendencies.'

Abbott, Monday, 1 September 2008 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

Side effects: suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, suicide, depression, psychosis, aggression, violent behaviors, emotional instability

***

The physician should consider whether Accutane therapy is appropriate in this setting; for some patients the risks may outweigh the benefits of Accutane therapy.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

gabbneb, Monday, 1 September 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

you all the time are plugging that URL, the one that gave me the hint that your EJACULATE SAPS YOUR TRACE MINERALS.

Abbott, Monday, 1 September 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

The high concentration of zinc in semen damps down sperm activity, keeping them in a relatively quiescent state. This lowers their consumption of oxygen and conserves sperm energy. Once within the female reproductive tract, which contains very little zinc, zinc concentrations are rapidly diluted. This causes a sudden increase in sperm activity, speeding them up and acting like a mineral turbo charge.

Abbott, Monday, 1 September 2008 20:03 (seventeen years ago)

yeah that's pretty much why i never took it. the topical version (can't remember what's called but it's like retin-a) worked fine anyway, after i was on every other acne medication known to man. also they have this government monitoring you have to participate in or something. i was on bcp already but it was like you had to take a pregnancy test or something? like can't i just tell them i'm not pragnent?

harbl, Monday, 1 September 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

The best thing about accutane is the pills are in one of those pop-out blister packs, like cold medicine is in. But covering every single pill is this little cardboard oval you have to pull off to get to the pill. On it is a silhouette of a pregnant woman with a big red NO symbol over it.

My brother took it years ago and every morning I'd laugh and say "No pregnant women allowed!" I tried to collect them to tape them on things, but he got really angry when I tried to. I think he was embarrassed about the whole thing.

two years pass...

Accutane is SCARY, I'd only take it if my acne were really terrible. In fact, like everyone as a youngster I got pimples, never had really bad acne. Of course as a mature adult I haven't had a zit in, like, fifteen years.

Mount Cleaners, Friday, 1 July 2011 09:28 (fourteen years ago)

accutane (which, here, was ro-accutane, in case that's a significant distinction) really kind of saved my life, & is still the best decision i ever made, i think. like i would hesitate to recommend it to others without a thousand caveats, on account of having been at the manageable end of the crazy-side-effects pool, and i know that it can be really brutal, but i am still in awe of drug science whenever i look in the mirror, sorta like-

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/157900_38876897463_6851006_n.jpg

i will also rep hard for avoiding sugar(s) & the dermo-kryptonite that is orange juice, but i know there's a little less evidence on the efficacy of those things.

devoted to boats (schlump), Friday, 1 July 2011 09:42 (fourteen years ago)

ahh roaccutane, i had lots of weird side effects, the stuff does work though

my allergies went real bad shortly after i'd finished taking it, some things send me into anaphylactic shock. this is a real bummer. had v dry skin/lips/itchy eyes (still do 5 years later).

friend of mine who was also on it went kind of crazy. super aggressive, started boxing and taking speed :-/

Crackle Box, Friday, 1 July 2011 15:43 (fourteen years ago)

tea tree oil

z (a you), Friday, 1 July 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

one year passes...

Can you believe I finally got a gigantic ZIT? I got it at the doctor when having minor surgery. I think it was an allergic reaction to something.

I put some ice on it and it helped numb and shrink it. But it is huge and itchy!! I'm too old for Oxy-10!!

Some people have severe allergies to tea tree oil. It made me break out terribly.
