Tuesday is Sage's first UK show, and although I've never actually seen him play before, it should be an intense performance in a small packed club - Plastic People, where the sound is clear enough to carry an MC's lyrics, rather than just the flow, over the soundsystem. But do you always need persuading, Gareth. Perhaps you should stick with the records in your room instead of trying something new .... hehe. Go download 'Makeshift patriot' and then lemme know if you want me to get you a drink at the bar.
Thursday - Boom Bip / DOSE 0.N.E. and cLOUDEAD - Both live performances far exceeded my expectations - DOSE's 10,000 watt personality, Boom Bip's the judicious restraint (even with the theremin), and CLOUDDEAD seemed to be having a rather focused party.

yea yea alright. i can't download. i don't have a pc! has clouddead already been then? i thought it was this week. but yea, i'm coming to sage francis tomorrow

i had an argument (well, discussion) with matt on saturday about boom bips criticisms of contemporary hip hop in the wire

oh, yes, i forgot to ask, theres like a film shorts/music festival thing in leeds in october, they're looking for submissions of the kind of thing you might already be doing nick, the arndale britain aesthetic was mentioned. i'll forward the details when matt sends them to me...

Sorry - Clarification - they all recorded a Peel Session live in Maida vale last week, but they're playing again at 93ft east this week. I recommend everyone try and get into one of these sessions just for the sight of John in his cosy booth beside the band, blustering his way through items and requests, dropping sheets of paper and generally living up to expectations - I may not listen to his show quite as much as I did, but he's still a staggering paradox - one of the most vital sources of underground music as well as a national treasure.

'... the ice hockey haircut, short on top for the men, lonag at the back for the laydeez..."

I'd see sage francis as he's supported by the Supreme Vagabond Craftsman, from leicester.

Images of said Peel Session , and there should be a recording of it archived somewhere.... Ah, HERE it is.

surely you can imagine how much more fun the clouddead show is gonna be... (ans: x100000000000000)

it's a little unfair to throw clouddead and esp dose in with the 'backpacker massive', they have their moments but can be very creative nonetheless. sage is very uh, worthy and talented and stuff but I really really can't be arsed with any more confessional poetry blah. I can only take that from Saul Williams these days.... everyone else what makes you think I CARE???!!!

ps don't let the laydeez quote sway you, the rest of that track is a long paen to how hiphop is now commersh-zzzzzzzzzz. but to each his own!

Hey Gareth, I@m reviewing the show on Tuesday and Thursday and in full possession of all of the cds. I'm also doing an article with loads of help from Ninja Tune on these dada bastards. Very exciting time, isnt it? I'm not going to tell you what I look like but I know what you look like, so see you there, Tuesday adn Thursday.

PS. I just heard from Southern that Dalek is coming to the U.K. as well...

I dig Sage. Not visionary but his personal journalists style is the bomb.

Have you heard of Dalek? Public Enemy meets My Bloody Valentine.

doomie, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

any details on this dalek gig then?

Sage Francis was pretty good in Brighton last night but could NEVER rock my world as much as Buck 65 did last month. The highlight was probably my boyfriend being unexpectedly roped in to help interview Sage for GQ...
