Did everyone have a good weekend?

I went to a ball on Saturday night and danced around to a bad 80's covers band. Didn't really do a lot else.

Davel, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to central London, I bought yet more Transformers merchandise, some Manga video, and a Murakami book (A Wild Sheep Chase). Then on Sunday, I don't think I did alot, but I did read some of the essential Spiderman that my friend lent me and played Spiderman on GBA. This week, I am going to be sensible and do lots of writing, that I should've done ages ago.

What Transformers stuff did you get?

Davel, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday I went to my flatmate's thirtieth birthday party, where I dj'ed until I was kicked off the decks because the management didn't like the raucous direction I was taking (teenage kicks followed by stroke of genius for goodness' sake)so the house DJ went back to playing the Venga boys and Steps!! Saturday, I stayed in bed for a very long time, too long in fact as I was pretty knackered for the rest of Saturday.

Sunday I was supposed to play footy but instead hung out, watched Amelie and caught up with a lot of 24.

All in all, a pretty spiffing weekend.

chris, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the band played Leeds on saturday and Oxford on sunday = i am knackered and the sound of a VAN gives me the screaming heebie jeebies. still, the handsome family also played at the oxford thing so i ended up seeing them and the sun came out and then we went to a v nice pub, so it was good. Leeds though - don't even ARSK grrr...

katie, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday nacht - had a few beers at a friend's house and watched Last Orders on video.

Saturday - Went to buy some bricks in the morning (final stages of house renovation project), avoided doing anything with the bricks in the afternoon. Made a compilation tape for my brother in law's wedding reception, for which I'm doing the music. PM - friends C and V came round and we drank shedloads of wine.

Sunday - Footy kickaround with son and friends in the morning. PM - Played cricket - a helpful pitch contributed to a decent analysis of 6-1-20-2. Both wickets LBW, although the first one was too high. Not that I didn't appeal! Post match beer and that's it.

I got a Star Sabre super Collection Figure, he's kinda like the 6th different version of Optimus Prime. SCF are these figures that don't transform and are based on the cartoon characters. See here for details: bottom left .

I finally telephoned Becka (first step in a chain of finding out the number for girl from university I want to see who's meant to be phoning me and hasn't), and she's deleted the numbers of the next people in the chain, so bah.

That's about it. also I was meant to be writing a CV but haven't and now have ~half hour to do so if I'm going to get it to the agency today.

Friday went round to a friend's house, supposedly for a feww glasses of wine followed by nightbus. It turned into bottles and bottles of wine and passing out on my friend Dave, who very kindly put me to bed on the sofa.

On Saturday I went to Brighton to meet my friend Emma's new boyfriend. He was very nice and we all went on rides on the pier. Well Emma, our friend Caroline and I did, new boyfriend didn't like them, but did hold all of our handbags whilst we ran about like children.

Came back to London and went to a fancy dress party.

Anna, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bought a couple of recs on sunday in the comapny of Sean carruthers. then went for a really hilarious movie called 'dead or alive'. It's japanese 'yakuza' type movie with one of the funnniest, most memorable endings ever (ppl were laughing and clapping where i watched it). I recommend it.

Julio Desouza, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last week was a pretty great week and so I did nothing at the weekend having been out on Thursday anyway. I watched a video on Saturday, and sat around on Sunday. I think I did something Friday but I forget. I had my fun earlier in the week.

Ronan, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got sick from walking in the sun and heat. Yuck.

rosemary, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

heh yes indeed gareth, the good old joseph's well. the day started off badly when we were late, we nearly forgot my bass, it's a very long drive and we had to drive back straight after playing so couldn't even stick around to see some of the other bands or have a pint or anything. still at least i didn't have to go to work the next day like i usually do, grump grump...

katie, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

went down the country with my parents and got sunburnt on my back while weeding.

What's Josephs well like now. I went there a couple of times aboout five years ago I seem to remember it being a relatively bad venue, probably because it was only ever half full.

Davel, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to the leeds thing wot katie player at and got VERY VERY drunk, and someone put a cat on my head and tried to get it to eat pizza while I was passed out. But I got off better than Matt Strangefruit (does he post here?) who got drawn all over with permanant marker.

Actually I just phoned Jonny who organised the weekend, and we had a conversation that went like this:

Me : So what did you do last night after I left? Jonny : Well we stayed up until about 4 this morning playing a game that was like pass the parcel, but instead of a parcel you passed around a plant and when the music stopped you had to eat a leaf. Me : Haha, that's a great game. Jonny : None of my plants have got leafs on them now.

This makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Steve.n., Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

OKAY! On Friday we ate chips! Drank beer! Went to the pub! Watched Big Brother! Drank more beer! Watched more Big Brother! Fell asleep!

Saturday: I did CHORES involving washing and a bit of tidying and precisely nothing else. Big Brother. Which reminds me I still haven't put my clothes away yet.

Sunday: met up with Oooooon and a few other chaps and had the nicest duck gyoza, and japanese curry with deep fried aubergine, pumpking a- a-and butternut squash/roast sweet potato, I can't remember which. Then went round the shops, came home and made some sushi handrolls and wraps which um, looked... individual... oops. But tasted nummy! Then I read a great magazine that Lixi bought home, Vueve Cliquot, which told me how to navigate the season and about women polo players. Big Brother! And sleeeep. Low key.

Sarah, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Joesphs Well is ok I guess, a bit shabby but then what do you expect. Also we had GEDGE ACTION! so it was like properly being in Leeds.

Steve.n., Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Matt Strangefruit (does he post here?) who got drawn all over with permanant marker.

ha ha ha ha Karmic revenge for the breakfast on window ATP incident!!!!

chris, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

saturday was my FRIEND's birthday so we went to a pub and then to a japanese restaurant and then to another pub and then to a house and there were, haha, celebrities there and then I slept on an inflatable mattress that inflates through its own little inflating machine device.

on sunday I walked around town with some friends and bought a couple of items and went to a pub and saw a boy having some sort of a fit on the other side of the street and two ambulances arriving and then went to a pub quiz in which our team [dude, where's my carly simon?] came first and won twenty-four bottles of beer and I had to draw a clown's face onto the top of my friend's face in order to have the chance to win forty pounds and I did it [after a fashion] and I had to chose from four record sleeves [incl. rod stewart, shakin' stevens, eddie murphy, simply red, the teardrop explodes, nana mouskwhatever] and even though I had told my friend I wanted to choose julian cope because he likes scott walker even if he's a dick [jules], well, after he suggested it I chose the nana and didn't win and then some dude from the next placed team went up and chose julian cope and got through the the next round but chose phil collins over ozzy osbourne and did lose. or not win. the money rolls over to next week: we should win it then.

I bought records today. this still sort of feels like the weekend. I wish it didn't.

RJG, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had to choose obviously. and from NINE sleeves. since it wasn't four. +whatever else.

RJG, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

did anyone go to the free video games music quiz that they were doing in clerkenwell as part of the literary festival. i forgot all about it. grr

Alan T, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Matt Strangefruit (does he post here?) who got drawn all over with permanant marker. ha ha ha ha Karmic revenge for the breakfast on window ATP incident!!!!

I think it was karmic revenge for him telling Bearsuit how crap he thought they were the whole previous day, haha they were just waiting for their chance to spring their revenge and falling asleep in room full of said band's members = instant human graffiti "$%"!¬!^

Steve.n., Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

heh matty strangefruit does have a tendency to, ahem, pass out after too many ales doesn't he? most sorry to have missed the marker pen incident, but will make sure to bring it up next time i speak to him ;)

katie, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You should've stayed in leeds katie, I was expecting y'all to stick around for at least one drink so I could say hello, but no you were off straight away.

Steve.n., Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday = still recovering from Thursday night oh dear, but with a ginormous dripping with blood steak to satisfy my bloodlust (my mum always thinks this means I am getting anaemic, I think it means I love blood).

Saturday = Respect Festival in Victoria Park where - shock horror post Glasto - we saw the WHOLE of Blak Twang's set, and blimming marvellous it was too. Then watched Ken manfully avoid throwing people off stage. Signing lots of petitions including one to get firemen more money to ensure that they are properly eligible. Then assorted pubs of Mr Hopkins' choice. Then HUGE amounts of food in Turkish restaurant.

Sunday = soap omnibuses + papers + general sofa based activities.

Emma, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, not FAIR, I saw Black Twang at viccy park too. d'oh!! see if only i'd sorted out the meeting up thingy. i thort they were OK -- i have not had the Hopkins uk trip-hop experience though.

Alan T, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and sunday was walk in the "country". nice. if the tex-mex pub in the middle of nowhere was a bit odd. (they had cowboay hatted staff and "Buffalo Bill" and "Buffalo Jill" painted on the toilets)

Alan T, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We were deliberately hiding from you. There was a pretty huge crowd mind you. That girl MC, Est'elle (this could be wrong as she was at the Stoke Newington UK Hip hop thing too and I cannot remember from the programme exactly where the ' goes) was ACE. De La Soul = yawn yawn. We also saw Oojami, billed as 'the sound of Green Lanes' (scary) who were good and had a belly dancer too.

Emma, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry steve, we would have stuck around had we not had another gig the next day; as it was Leeds is a long long way away from Shepherd's Bush and as it was we didn't get back till half past midnight!

katie, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday: rehearsed (FINALLY "on its feet" and it felt GREAT to do). Met up in Ft. Greene with buddies and watched the end of the Sox game with a boisterous bar crowd. Saturday: woke up late, skipped Siren Fest, did laundry and almost nothing else, hung about, eventually went out and accidentally saw the best rock show I've seen in months, the MODEY LEMON. Sunday wrote several long-overdue emails, talked to folks on phone, went to rehearsal, back home to discover gas off, down to not paying bill for weeks. Lucky for me I had a BIG BOWL of tomato/vinegar loveliness in fridge from day before tho pore roomie is stuck waiting for the gas man today.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ah! cool site born clippy! I am going to impoverish myself by just buying stuff.

jel --, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must have this: only $139.95

jel --, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bought birthday gifts for a friend for a party that is still not happening quite yet, cleaned up a lot of loose papers and stuff in my room, had some good food, got some writing projects completed and others started, watched old Avengers episodes, made some phone calls to deserving folks, bought Legend on DVD and otherwise enjoyed summer. And why not?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did bugger all, really. Completely dull and wasted. Sorry.
