mike hanle y, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll take that as a 'no' then?

gareth, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Winkelmann, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Been there. Done that. Lisbon is a fantastic place to just hang out and do a lot of nothing. Great food and very inexpensive.

Chris Barrus, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
Went over for the Radiohead gigs. It's a lovely place, very cheap and pretty without being jam packed full of tourists. Cigarettes are only €2.15 a pack.

Leigh, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they were only €2 in berlin! but yes, i want to go to lisbon soon

gareth, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lisbon is grebt, been there many times (that would happen, seeing as how it's pretty much the point that connects my island to the rest of Europe.) Lots of wonderful little streets and gorgeous old buildings, plus Colombo is biggest mall in Portugal (now aren't you impressed?) The air always seems terribly polluted to me tho (moreso than in New York or Hamburg), tho I'm admitidely spoiled by the ultra-fresh air of S.Miguel.

Daniel_Rf, Monday, 7 October 2002 22:29 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
is march a good time of year, for lisbon?

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 10 January 2005 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It'll be pretty rainy, I reckon... but hell, perfect weather for holing up in coffee shops (and when yer there, seriously: check out the goddamn custard tarts - OMG!). Shouldn't be too crowded either. Great place - beautiful, friendly and pretty weird to boot.

NickB (NickB), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I was talking about going back there for my 30th birthday, might be a bit hot though.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Lisbon so much!

I went in April and it was...fucking wonderful.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
ok, how about May?

i will get there, one day

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I am almost certainly going in August.

BRILLIANT place.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I will retire in there.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

JaX0n to thread! (FWIW: I think he hated Lisbon).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

my college best friend graduated a semester early and with little warning picked up and went to Lisbon alone for a few days. i think he liked it a lot.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

FWIW: I think he hated Lisbon

Well, he is wrong.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ive always had the impression that porto would be much better, its something about being the second biggest city

chupa-cabra, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Porto feels like a big town, Lisbon feels like a small city. I like both but Lisbon is nicer.

Jonathan Z. (Joanthan Z.), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Porto is nice, less whimsy more industry, which is no bad thing. My friend Tiago is from there. I made a film with him.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Porto's nice, but there's a lot more to do in Lisbon I feel. Porto's even more hilly than Lisbon, if that's possible.

Jonathan Z. (Joanthan Z.), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a friend from there who swears it's amazing. i plan to go one day.

(lisbon that is.)

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I've been to lisbon. I'd like to go again though.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

how would you not remember? you don't strike me as the type to live out your vacations in a drug haze.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

When I close my eyes, I see Lisbon.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it was 1996, amst., which was coincidentally the last year I went swimming.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

cozen have you ever seen "the swimmer" with burt lancaster??

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I have not, no.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I have. A strange film.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

it sounds amazing, reading imdb. I'll see if our library has it.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it sounds like it could either be great or terrible or even both! even roger ebert doesn't seem to be quite sure which it is.

i adore burt lancaster, but he's not necessarily a guarantee of quality. neither is joan rivers.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's beautifully shot and Lancaster looks like he is made of granite in it. The acting and editing are a little dated. There are 2 or 3 scenes that are horrifically embarassing to watch.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"acting and editing are dated"

does this mean it resembled midnight cowboy??

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, a little bit yes! There is a pool party scene that could double for the party scene in Midnight Cowboy. It's a real wacky happening. And I love Midnight Cowboy.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

gaygax is correct. i didn't like Lisbon. the architecture with all the moorish tiles is nice. the fake golden gate bridge is funny. the fact that the taxi driver ripped us off for 60$ by driving around the entire city when he coulda gone direct for 10$ sucked. the food was DISGUSTING! i seriously haven't had worse food in my life. every meal was bad. the meat is cured differently or something. the cereal milk is warm. i had one good meal and that was at some touristy fish place on some pier where all the clubs are. other times i was never so happy to find a Hard Rock Cafe or McDonalds.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

see above

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

cereal milk ... you crazy?

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

what, you eat cereal with water?

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

it's the Mediterranean, what are you doing fucking around with milk anyway? it's a pre-refrigeration culture.

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Go to Porto gareth! I loved it, and I imagine it's much less touristy than Lisbon, we hardly saw any tourists when we were there the other weekend. The food was fantastic, everything was cheap, very pretty in a decaying charm kind of a way (see photos on photoeurope thread if you haven't already), the locals were friendly, and you can drink lots of free Port.

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 10 March 2005 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
I want to go to lisbon and to porto.

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

just returned from there. Awesome if you like tiled, hilly alleyways and great seafood!

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
I'm going to retire there.

I want to retire...tomorrow.

Sexy Dancer is on all the Lisbon threads!

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

I want to go to lisbon

wonder if I've said that already on this thread

want to go to porto too

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

I want to go to lisbon and to porto.

-- cozen (skiplevel...), May 18th, 2005.

[jailhouse tattoo] (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

haha that's funny

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

The Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon is terrific. A beautiful Ghirlandaio painting. I've never been offered drugs so often as I was on the streets of Lisbon. The Alfama was great and the cakes from Belem, the best. Tram 28 recommended.

Porto's good too, but more workaday.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

"Braga prays, Coimbra studies, Lisbon shows off and Porto works."

I still lurve Lisbon.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

I been there. Cab driver ripped us off. Nice city otherwise.
