Dane Cook, Jeremy Piven, and Kid Rock.

CAVEAT: I'm only happy about this one because I like to pretend that the ceiling caved in two seconds after this photo was taken killing all three where they stood.

I like this photo, not totally unlikely, but still a whole lot of famous. Saw first on an ILM thread, I think.

Guess with Tyson: Joyce Carol Oates??? I know she's done a lot of writing about boxing, so that one might not be that weird.

well at least this is the first time it’s ever been proposed that people caption their photos on this thread*, so at least a helpful new era of human consideration and communication will ensue

We should do an international recognition test with pictures of Pauly Shore, Yahoo Serious, Larry the Cable Guy, etc.

Red Green one of the most Canadian things ever, up there with Bob and Doug McKenzie

nickn, Tuesday, 14 April 2026 02:39 (one month ago)

Red Green is very Canadian, though it also aired on some PBS stations in the 90s as well.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 14 April 2026 02:53 (one month ago)

That's where I saw it. My best friend and I were obsessed with Red Green and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

Cow_Art, Tuesday, 14 April 2026 10:34 (one month ago)

You don't get Red Green points unless you watched him in his original appearances on the Smith and Smith show, the lowest-budget comedy programme not actually on public access TV.

It's funny that Springsteen is one of the few huge artists of the rock era who never attempted an acting career. He probably would have done best than others.

Josefa, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 17:55 (four weeks ago)

so weird that they named their team after a... a fair. I guess that's all they had?

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 17:57 (four weeks ago)

I always thought that was nuts as well. A one-time only fair that was over before the team started playing. Plus they had a baffling logo.

Josefa, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:00 (four weeks ago)

always thought it looked like a snail trying to eat a hot dog

Cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria de Episcopio, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:03 (four weeks ago)

I read somewhere that before Madonna came around, Hardy was the most photographed woman in the world

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:05 (four weeks ago)

more than Jackie O and Grace Kelly?

Cattedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria de Episcopio, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:10 (four weeks ago)

I have no way to quantify it

But Hardy was a model for Vogue et al where Jackie O hid beneath a veil

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:12 (four weeks ago)

xxp

It's way before my time but Expo 67 is still considered a very big deal in the history of Montreal, I can understand why they named the baseball team after it. Also one of the best logos in sports in my opinion.

silverfish, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:12 (four weeks ago)

While the rest of the photos on that page are plenty appealing, that one achieves the nearly impossible task of making Hardy look less than monumentally photogenic.

bendy, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:18 (four weeks ago)

maybe she wrote a song called "Base-a-ball" about her time at the park

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:23 (four weeks ago)

She went to Jarry Park to shoot the photos that illustrate this article. On location, she obediently followed along with all the photographer’s requests.

Later, she admitted, “It was the first time I’d seen baseball players. They’re huge! In France, we’re not used to seeing men that big.”

During the pre-game workout, balls whizzed past her, flying from all directions. The people accompanying her — her agent, Lionel Roc, and her guide, Pierre David of CJMS Productions, took cover. She remained, without the slightest bit of worry. Serious.

But later, in the stands, she had fun playing the fan, an Expos cap on her head and a hot dog in her hand.

The Quaker Gurvitz Army (President Keyes), Tuesday, 5 May 2026 18:27 (four weeks ago)

possibly the only Expos fan wearing a mink coat

not Francoise but Serge wrote a song called Baseball where the word baaaaase is really stretched out so it sounds like baise because of course he'd do a song like that
features in the 1967 film Anna

Allow me to introduce you to St. Louis, Missouri, where they have not yet shut up about 1904.

kim jong illin' (Ye Mad Puffin), Tuesday, 5 May 2026 19:32 (four weeks ago)

I thought the Expos logo was a stylized EB for Seagram’s mogul Edgar Bronfman?

Brenton Wood Conference (Boring, Maryland), Tuesday, 5 May 2026 19:53 (four weeks ago)

I kind of forgot about the Expos until I was in Montreal last summer and bought a hat because the logo is awesome, plus it was a buy-one-get-one sale and my son got a Seattle Sonics hat for extra obselete teams bonus.

Anyway, if you ever want baseball nerds to flip out or get all glassy-eyed and nostalgic I suggest wearing an Expos hat around in public; sadly I don't know or care about baseball but it's kind of amazing how many reactions I've gotten.
