I had no idea Take Me Home Tonight has sat around that long, should maybe let it sit some more though.

Does a year for Old Dogs really qualify as a long shelf sit?

only one i've seen is Fanboys and that was pretty terrible

some dude, Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

In the article, they point out that Old dogs got pushed back several times because of unusual circumstances. Basically it's on there because of those stories.

Guess I should actually read the article. Wasn't that new Jim Carrey thing floating around for a long time too?

I am absolutely astonished a movie of Slapstick ever got made. 1. About people famous for being insanely ugly (and also intelligent) 2. Vonnegut self-rated it worst of his own books. Why did he sell movie rights to it?

great & spacious building (Abbbottt), Thursday, 24 February 2011 01:19 (fifteen years ago)

Are we supposed to vote for the best movie, or like the wackiest back story> ? Because I can't forsee myself actually watching any of these. (Well, maybe "Henry" I should see.)

Same here. Really poor film.

It was so terrible that I felt bad about myself for even sitting through it. I just can't stand not to see things through.

try to remember a time in september, when grass is green and hay is yellow

No mention of the infamous Car 54, Where Are You? remake which was filmed in 1990 sat on the shelf for 3 years while MGM and Warner Bros. acquired the remains of Orion Pictures. Another film in production hell for ages was The Adventures of Pluto Nash, filmed in 2000 but not released theatrically until 2002. Neither movie was particularly good but the history behind the titles are what make them interesting.

*I also heard all the stories about Fanboys being in perpetual development hell. I finally saw it on a Starz Free Preview Weekend and it wasn't good.

I've seen Fanboys and Henry, and that's like a contest between The Godfather and Tomcats. (Henry is The Godfather in this scenario.)

Du Musst Calamari Werden (Phil D.), Thursday, 24 February 2011 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

is one of these movies the mischa barton movie where she's a lesbian and tatu is involved somehow? because i've been waiting to criticize that movie since like 2007.

accredited butter grader and dairy technologist (reddening), Thursday, 24 February 2011 02:19 (fifteen years ago)

Oh fuck, I've also seen All the Boys Love Mandy Lane! A perfunctory slasher made risible by some weird arty pretensions and a deeply stupid twist.

Whatever you like. Whatever's more appealing.

Henry and oc and stiggs are both fantastic

i don't even remember the deeply stupid twist anymore. i just remember teen stereotypes getting drunk and making out at someone's parents' country house.

Lovers On The Bridge (completed 1990; released 1999)

Eh? I'm pretty sure this one came out in 1990 or 1991 - I remember reading the reviews and all. And I definitely saw it long before 1999.

Tuomas, Thursday, 24 February 2011 08:39 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, okay, looks like their definition of "long stay on the shelf" = "not released in the US". Lovers on the Bridge was released in Europe in 1991, and IIRC it was pretty successful too.

Tuomas, Thursday, 24 February 2011 08:43 (fifteen years ago)

oc and stiggs is totally worth watching yeah, I mean its really unwatchable in obvious ways, but probably my favorite teen hijinx american movie

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 24 February 2011 08:55 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, "Les Amants du Pont-Neuf" was rushed to French cinemas pretty much as soon as it could since it had gone way, way over budget and taken more than three years to produce.

Case 39 was fun!

da croupier, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:45 (fifteen years ago)

While Henry was easily the best of the films I've seen on this list, I'm voting for Case 39 because Case 39 has Bradley Cooper snapping his own neck after being attacked by CGI bees.

da croupier, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:46 (fifteen years ago)

Possible that scene was left to age like fine wine.

da croupier, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:48 (fifteen years ago)

two of these movies star Tony Award winner Dan Fogler

da croupier, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:49 (fifteen years ago)

i would totally vote for Car 54 if it was an option, kind of a fun stupid movie

some dude, Thursday, 24 February 2011 13:57 (fifteen years ago)

Major omission: "Battle Royale." How long did it take that one to show up on these (or most) shores? Answer: long enough for its concept to be retrofitted into a bestselling YA adult novel.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:01 (fifteen years ago)

Re; "Lovers on the Bridge," that's one of the films that cemented Miramax's reputation as surprisingly un-friendly to filmmakers. They famously (infamously?) bought the rights and then indeed kept it under wraps in the US for almost a decade, before unceremoniously plopping it into theaters with little to no fanfare.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:05 (fifteen years ago)

but battle royale is based on a book!

just sayin, Thursday, 24 February 2011 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

Battle Royale (the book) came out in 1999, a year before Battle Royale (the movie). Book wasn't translated to English til 2003. Regardless, the Japanese film version has never gotten US distribution. Just sort of ironic that a YA book reminiscent of a controversial, never-distributed (in the US) film based on a belatedly translated book is getting remade as a big-budget Hollywood movie.

OC & Stiggs sucks

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 00:02 (fifteen years ago)

yes it does

ice cr?m's world of female people (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

was kinda amazed at how bad it was tbh. I was like "Robert Altman made a teen sex comedy? sounds perfect!"

and then it sucked

ice cr?m's world of female people (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 00:06 (fifteen years ago)

bet all those people that voted for it feel properly told now
