All I remember is it was a bout a kid who can go inside his TV and live int he programmes. It's not Stay Tuned, it was earlier - can anyone help?

definitely a film. i saw it at a friend's house on his, i dunno, 7th birthday party or something... I remember himm saying "we can either watch 'the Purple People Eater'" which I thought was about a monster that ate purple people, "or 'The Boy Who Can Go Inside The TV'". I'm pretty sure that's not the name of the film though.
