``standing here at my standing desk''

radiant silverfish (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 8 February 2012 16:37 (twelve years ago) link

Do workers in Foxconn factories who build products for Apple, Dell, HP, and others, work long hours at tedious tasks? Yes they do. Do they work for a fraction of what a worker in the US, Japan, or even Korea would? Yes they do?

Are they being enslaved? Clearly, they are not.

welp, glad we cleared that up!

Since a grandmother at home dealt with child rearing and the household management, the workers didn’t seem stressed by the work requirements or complain.

My favorite iPhone Twitter client is now available for the iPad too. I’ve been using for a few weeks and it’s just terrific. I love it.

every single time there's a big new ios app release, he makes sure to let everyone know that he's already been using it for weeks

radiant silverfish (diamonddave85), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

hey guys did you know that I run a popular apple-centric blog, and that application developers find me to be a good target for promotional beta releases? now you do!

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

I remember being young and thinking that it'd be cool to be in a position where people would send me unreleased products to review. Then I got old and realized that beta testing other people's shit is horrible.

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

I love Tweetbot and iOs for the simplicity and beautifulness of the triple-tap gesture.

I wonder if Gruber is beta testing the version with quadruple-taps.

James Mitchell, Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

lol

I have two twitter apps on iPhone and I've been swapping between them with no clear fave. tweetbot 2.0 is kinda nice, though

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 9 February 2012 15:42 (twelve years ago) link

i caved and got tweetbot when it went on sale and i like it so much more than any other one i've used, it's just like... enjoyable

Hear that noise? That’s Violet Blue backpedalling…

radiant silverfish (diamonddave85), Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:31 (twelve years ago) link

oh jesus

The overreacting/woman-protection racket going on from Gruber's corner, masquerading as being in-touch with feminist concerns or being somehow more sympathetic, is gross. Someone found the name of a woman at the company and he ran with it, which is... what, all women are the same and you found the name of the one woman who worked for them, no way are there two of them?

valleys of your mind (mh), Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

There are, after all, too many millions of different models of woman. The development team should take a leaf out of Apple's book and slim down the product line offering to perhaps only two or three designs, each to fulfill the varying functions as needed by the user. This approach could soon see a rapid change in the market, with the adoption rate of women (in my suggested wifi, 8gb and 16gb variations) bringing women to the forefront of the post-PC world.

James Mitchell, Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

on the contrary, that woman is a beacon, a yardstick for all other women

Almost before you could stop throwing up in your mouth at the idea of Michael Arrington accusing a Times journalist of being less than noble, Arrington’s partner at CrunchFund, MG Siegler, weighed in with his own attack in which he basically said Bilton is a nice guy who was either too lazy or too busy to do a good job. From this Siegler leaps off into a long diatribe about how most tech reporting is utter bullshit written by idiots who are all in a hurry to chase page views.

So: Path comes under fire, and straight away, the paid hit men – Arrington and his sidekick, Matty the Angry Chihuahua — spring into action to smear Bilton and try to discredit him.

I’ll give them this much. They’re good at what they do. Siegler especially is a nasty little ankle-biter who has developed some level of expertise in launching ad hominem attacks. He did one on me a while back. Then he did one on Josh Topolsky at The Verge.

Now it’s Nick Bilton’s turn.

Great response here from the man who's not afraid to type the word 'bullshit':

Looks like someone woke up from his nap of the last three years and is hungry. Sadly, I don’t have much food for him. I’ll keep this as brief as possible — and I promise this will be the last thing I ever say about Dan Lyons, as he’s clearly done.

Feel free not to read. Or read Michael Arrington’s post on the matter. He takes a higher road than I’m about to. I’m just sick of Lyons’ bullshit.

i have lost all ability to discern sarcasm in this thread. That wasn't a great response to me, just point-avoiding ad homs from a corrupt would-be hack.

stet, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 08:21 (twelve years ago) link

Definitely sarcasm.

Big fan of http://mgsieglermeme.tumblr.com, though.

James Mitchell, Tuesday, 14 February 2012 08:32 (twelve years ago) link

yeah anyone who defends siegler or arrington on this should be banned from ilx and thrown into the ocean
