yeah in that sense gruber's longevity (10 years?) as basically the top pundit in the game is pretty remarkable

true josh.valleywag (i.e. basically just sam biddle, right?) has really gone in at the deep end, but the stench had got so bit strong over the past year or two, and no one was saying anything (except the register, which is still the best, aside from its lack of boots on the ground in CA)

aaaaaaaahhhh now i understand *installs foursquare on my iPhone 5*

this is sort of random, but for example fucking livejournal was and is super easy to make fun of, but for the second half of my senior year of high school and my first year in college, it was actually a super profound service, because it let my friends and i write shit about our lives that only we'd see (via "friends only" posts), and it sort of enabled us to connect in a weird intimate way as a little group. that doesn't happen on facebook. that doesn't happen on tumblr. or at least not for me, not now. but for the time we were all on there it was something really neat, in retrospect.

not that foursquare enables anything useful, but maybe it does for someone.

livejournal was cool i had a livejournal, in fact still do

lj was completely virtual tho, and anonymous (if u chose it), its the intersection of the virtual world and the real world that is gonna bring up some creepy and perhaps unexpectedly creepy situations and scenarios, a la foursquare

facebook in its early days enabled some crazy shit

I did the autojournal thing, so i use foursquare disconnected from all social media mainly to note in my journal when i go somewhere interesting.

Those one word yeps come off as so fucking haughty. Like "I will deign to address your rumour, but you shall get naught but one word from me, for I am so very important and my word shall be the final one on the subject." Ugh.

(even more annoying b/c like markers said he's normally right, which builds even more of a weird cult of personality around this dude who is basically a lonely beard just thinking baout angus young)

I am starting to merge all these jokers in my head into one guy w/suspenders frustrated with his suboptimal coffee experience.

The Verge is far and away the best of a terrible lot, but even then the writing isn't a patch on even Wired in its heyday.
