A ringing endorsement.

I like sound opinions.

roy g. devoe (askance johnson), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:26 (twelve years ago) link

Ooh... thanks AK. That indeed does not blow. In fact, it kind of rules a little bit.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:28 (twelve years ago) link

told u

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:29 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah I guess I listen to Sound Opinions with a grain of salt. Greg and (especially) Jim can be buffoons sometimes, but I'm still interested in a lot of what they talk about, whether it's reviews, interviews, or features.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:35 (twelve years ago) link

I don't know why I added "whether it's reviews, interviews, or features" and now for some reason it's making me laugh.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:38 (twelve years ago) link

lol

"Whether rain nor sleet nor snow."

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Friday, 16 March 2012 20:50 (twelve years ago) link

It's like a review of the show in a high school newspaper. Whether it's reviews, interviews, or features, San Dimas students are sure to love the sound of Sound Opinions!

carl agatha, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:55 (twelve years ago) link

It's like the Shield, but in real life! Also just contraband cigarettes instead of Armenian mob profits - http://www.suntimes.com/news/11342219-418/cook-county-sheriffs-officer-son-nabbed-in-federal-sting.html

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 March 2012 11:59 (twelve years ago) link

just when I thought I couldn't get more cynical about cops

dan m, Saturday, 17 March 2012 12:31 (twelve years ago) link

It's worth being cynical about the things police are legally permitted to do, much less their extra legal shenanigans.

Speaking of, hey seriously if any of you are taken to a police station for questioning about anything ANYTHING, like the second you're in an interrogation room, the only thing you say is "I want a lawyer and I refuse to answer any questions without one." Like a broken record you say this and not another word.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 March 2012 13:04 (twelve years ago) link

Especially if you did nothing. The biggest lie you'll hear in that situation is "Why don't you tell me what happened so we can clear this all up."

JeppsonsMalort

High of 78 degrees on a Saturday St. Paddys day? Let's try not to scream-vomit in too many strollers today, shall we Chicago?

dan m, Saturday, 17 March 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

If I didn't know better sometimes I'd almost swear the Chicago Kevin was running @JeppsonsMalort.

dan m, Saturday, 17 March 2012 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

Hahaha respond "r u ok wild man?" and see if he recognizes it.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 March 2012 15:03 (twelve years ago) link

heh, I've actually met the guy that runs it, it's not him :(

dan m, Saturday, 17 March 2012 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

lol dan/jeppson's

I can't believe there's a Wiener's Circle reality show. Ugh.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 March 2012 17:13 (twelve years ago) link

hey chilxors, me and ytth are gonna be in chicago april 12-17, would love to fap with some of you!! normally when we come out we're stuck in northbrook but ytth's parents have moved downtown, so we will be staying at the swiss hotel(?). we have a lot of family obligations plus a friend to see, but if some of you can squeeze in some free time to grab a drink that would be awesome! will post back here closer to the actual date to try and organise something if anyone is interested. <3

absolutely!

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Saturday, 17 March 2012 19:04 (twelve years ago) link

Swissotel (had to look that up) is convenient for many of us and not inconvenient for any of us, so yes. We will ALL be there.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Saturday, 17 March 2012 19:43 (twelve years ago) link

it's inconvenient for me, but i will attend a fap assuming that i am not working at the time you are fapping

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Saturday, 17 March 2012 19:47 (twelve years ago) link

I considered you when declaring it not inconvenient for any of us.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Saturday, 17 March 2012 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

It's convenient to where many of us work, but it's not like any of us live downtown or anything.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Saturday, 17 March 2012 21:39 (twelve years ago) link

LL I really hope it didn't sound snippy! I meant that Swissotel is a good home base that would allow J to meet us at many wonderful places that would not be absurdly out of the way. It's not like we're going to be hanging out in her room. Probably.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Saturday, 17 March 2012 22:29 (twelve years ago) link

Nah, not snippy. I just live way out there and have dogs. It's my lot in life.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Saturday, 17 March 2012 23:53 (twelve years ago) link

excellent! so a weeknight would suit best, then?

just1n3, Sunday, 18 March 2012 00:59 (twelve years ago) link

jenny, i was serious about bringing you a small jar of new zealish marmite, btw (it is different-tasting to british marmite).

just1n3, Sunday, 18 March 2012 01:03 (twelve years ago) link

!!! Awesome! Thanks!

carl agatha, Sunday, 18 March 2012 01:05 (twelve years ago) link

The walk from carl/Jeff's place was something. Highlights: having to wait for the proprietor of Brean and Milk to wash puke off the sidewalk w/ a bucket and the guy stumbling down the middle of the eastbound lane of Diversey, head slumped, arm up, trying to hail a cab. I actually stopped and watched him for a while b/c I was concerned that he was going to fall into traffic in the other lane.

Good job, Chicago, you managed to get real drunk.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Sunday, 18 March 2012 02:28 (twelve years ago) link

Amanda, I know where you live can be inconvenient for you sometimes but it's also really awesome up there. I was in RP a few weeks back and in Uptown a couple weeks later and I was thinking how comfortable and appealing those places are. If it weren't for the commute to my non-Loop office, I would love to live in Uptown, Edgewater, or RP. The vibe is so inviting.

Where I live now is really crazy convenient w/r/t stores and commuting and I love the big city feel, but it doesn't have the same neighborhoody feeling, and it doesn't have the same degree of ethnic diversity, which is cool.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Sunday, 18 March 2012 02:36 (twelve years ago) link

I've come around to Logan Square, but when I'm at Katie or Courtney's houses I feel estranged from the lake. Even J/J's place is farther from the lake than I would want to live.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Sunday, 18 March 2012 02:37 (twelve years ago) link

I love where I live -- it's just not v near where anyone hangs out.

Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Sunday, 18 March 2012 02:48 (twelve years ago) link

Did any of you get Dark Lord Day tickets?

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Sunday, 18 March 2012 22:08 (twelve years ago) link

Didn't even try. Too inconvenient for me to get to.

Jeff, Sunday, 18 March 2012 22:27 (twelve years ago) link

idk what that is

i was confusing Swissotel w/ Sofitel. sorry.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Monday, 19 March 2012 00:58 (twelve years ago) link

courtney and i went to see the jellies at the shedd aqauartium. not worth the $41* (!!!) admission, but still cool and gross and it included a other shows, including the trained beluga whales, sea lion, and dolphins. it was the first time i'd seen a marine animal show and it was amazing.

i used some of the training techniques they explained in the show on courtney and she is a quick learner. now the sounds "eeeee" and "murp" make her flinch and duck without my having to take any further action. aja.

we walked a couple miles along the lake and it was just gorgeous and we saw scenic parts of downtown that we'd never seen before.

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Monday, 19 March 2012 01:05 (twelve years ago) link

is that 41 per person??

just1n3, Monday, 19 March 2012 01:16 (twelve years ago) link

What parts of downtown?

Jeff, Monday, 19 March 2012 01:29 (twelve years ago) link

Ugh, yes, $41 per person! That amount included admission to the whole place plus all shows plus Ticketmaster's crappy fees. It was a pretty obscene price!

Poor C. got the anxiety over the huge loud crowds and the screaming children. We were there on a huge huge perfect storm weekend, what w/ the weather and holiday.

Jeff: We walked around the highrise residences just east of the Loop - the "New East Side" I think they call it? By the cool Aqua condos and the Blue Cross Blue Shield building and Navy Pier. There were actual hills there! It was near the secret place where cars go when they're towed from the Loop (4 levels down from Upper Wacker).

free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Monday, 19 March 2012 01:48 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, the Shedd is crazy expensive, particularly if you want to attend any of the special exhibits.

Je55e:
Dark Lord Day is the only day of the year to buy Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial stout. DLD is a festival where participants can meet other beer enthusiasts, sample beers from all over the world, buy Dark Lord, try Oak Aged Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout, eat BBQ, listen to live music, and generally have a great time.

I expected that maybe Jeff, of all the chilx regulars would be attending, but yeah, it is kind of a pain to get to I imagine. I've never been, but I got tickets this year and a friend is arranging a bus to get there.

stan this sick bunt (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 19 March 2012 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

DLD is also always on the day I'm coming back from my firm's yearly partner meeting, so I typically can't make it anyway. However I would take a bottle if anyone is giving me one.

Jeff, Monday, 19 March 2012 02:32 (twelve years ago) link

Where is the partners' meeting? What does "partners' meeting" mean for a firm like yours?
