jackass or ladykillers, surely the rest are jokes or gerrymandering

j'en ai cache (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

voted slap shot, duh, but r'n'r high school and step brothers are awesome too

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

Toy Story 2, Fletch and Man With Two Brains all on my top 100 ballot but none of them were first place votes for me. If I had to pick one of those three, probably Toy Story 2, which is genuinely hilarious.

Frank Youngenstein (Phil D.), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

still boggling at anyone giving blades of glory a #1 nod

sfdgafhtehw (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 21:58 (twelve years ago) link

think i would have to go w/ beyond the valley of the dolls just barely over ladykillers, slapshot, step brothers. boobs.

balls, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

Man With Two Brains the best I think. i'm having a hard time imagining complimentary reasons for why someone would put Metropolitan at #1 on their list

Mordy, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:06 (twelve years ago) link

Metropolitan definitely woulda made my list if I'd voted.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:07 (twelve years ago) link

step brothers, but only cause this is slim pickins

ferrante's inferranteno (some dude), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:11 (twelve years ago) link

hollywood shuffle or jackass, both of which should have been on my stupid ballot and thus wouldnt have been on this poll anyway

sfdgafhtehw (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:18 (twelve years ago) link

The Ladykillers (Alec Guinness!) edging out Beyond the Valley of the Dolls; I've been meaning to watch Hollywood Shuffle/Toy Story 2/Black Cat, White Cat/OSS 117 though.

etc, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:22 (twelve years ago) link

FLETCH, motherfuckers FLETCH

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 4 April 2012 22:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah I want to see Black Cat, White Cat

Seriously, imma strap every one of you down and force you to watch The Great Muppet Caper until you relent and give it the props it deserves.

(The next greatest would be The Man With Two Brains, of course.)

Brewster McCloud's pretty great, guys

i voted for toy story 2 b/c that was the only one listed that made it onto my ballot.

also, of the OSS's i thought that the one in rio was funnier than the one in cairo.

Crna mačka, beli mačo!

kate78, Wednesday, 4 April 2012 23:07 (twelve years ago) link

Black Cat, White Cat was my #1 so that. The first time I watched it was my archetypal instance of the student <mind=blown> experience and probably the most I've ever laughed at a film.

So much respect for the Blades of Glory voter. Could be City Lights, but I'm probably going to vote for Love & Death.

i'm having a hard time imagining complimentary reasons for why someone would put Metropolitan at #1 on their list

That was me, and I'm having a hard time imagining what's so weird about that -- this movie is kind of universally critically beloved, isn't it? I agree there are not that many people who, like me, think it's funnier than Airplane! (my #4) but it's surely no less weird than thinking Blades of Glory or Fletch are funnier than Airplane!.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:15 (twelve years ago) link

Blades of Glory is the most o_O thing to get a #1 vote. maybe Kanye posts here after all.

ferrante's inferranteno (some dude), Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:21 (twelve years ago) link

City Lights is the only serious choice

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:22 (twelve years ago) link

Unserious edge to Rock 'n' Roll High School over Love and Death. City Lights would be my #3; like Metropolitan, haven't seen most of these.

clemenza, Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

1. love & death
2. fletch
3. beyond the valley of the dolls
4. SHOWGIRLS

(not a huge margin btwn 1-3 imo & my personal ballot ordered them differently iirc)

I voted for Blades of Glory (and it was no joke vote), but it was my #4, not my #1... So there must be some mistake here?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:46 (twelve years ago) link

Ah. sorry, I misread the initial post, I thought these movies received a single #1 vote and nothing else.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:48 (twelve years ago) link

Also, I don't get why people are so baffled by the BoG votes - have you actually seen the movie? It's funny, touching, and also subtly critical of dominant gender norms.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:50 (twelve years ago) link

Went for Toy Story 2 but thinking maybe Step Brothers was a better option.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 April 2012 11:54 (twelve years ago) link

Ladykillers for me, wonder how much higher I could have put it to make it place

if there's one thing i look for in a comedy film, it's subtle criticism of dominant gender norms.

having said that, i'm struggling to comprehend BoG and "subtle" in the same sentence.

voted oss 117 as my #1 in the poll, voting again for it.

xp to eisbaer, i voted for the rio one quite high too but to me the first one will always remain better just due to the fact that i had no idea what to expect when it came out. by the time the second was out, all my friends and i were eagerly anticipating it, so higher expectations might've slightly hindered its potential as funniest.

Jibe, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 12:08 (twelve years ago) link

That's why I said "and also"; it wasn't the main thing going for BoC, but it was a nice surprise, especially considering it came out around the same time as conservative-at-heart comedies like Knocked Up.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 12:10 (twelve years ago) link

Hollywood Shuffle is the only one to make my ballot, so it was an obv choice, but I love Slapshot, Ladykillers and Beyond, too.

da croupier, Tuesday, 10 April 2012 12:31 (twelve years ago) link

I liked everything about Blades that didn't involve Jon Heder, but a lot involved Jon Heder.

Voted Showgirls, as it was my number one.

Getting the impression that each of these films will get one vote from the person who put the film at the top of their ballot. My breath is bated for the results!

I voted Ladykillers.
I need to watch or rewatch, not sure which, Hollywood Shuffle.
I rewatched The Great Muppet Caper quite recently and agree that it was very enjoyable. I don't think I would put it above The Muppet Movie though.
I wasn't expecting so many full body shots of the Muppets, including a few which were evidently of humans in Muppet costumes. I found it a bit creepy.(This is just an aside, nothing to do with voting for it or not)

Blades Of Glory is perfectly aight but the most generous possible ranking i could imagine anyone giving it is 4th or 5th best Will Ferrell movie and obv having that many WF movies on your ballot would be insane
