they broke this show when they broke them up. the inverse of the typical sitcom rule, but the last few episodes of last season were joyless.

not only am i mad that they've intentionally crushed all sexual tension between the characters from a shipping standpoint, i think it's also reduced everyone's character to "i'm a well-meaning idiot" lest they accidentally click on any level beyond "amiable roommate"

there are still decent jokes and takes but omggggg why would they delete season 2 from the show's psychological record AS WELL AS season 3?

i wonder if hollywood up-and-comer jake johnston wears sunglasses between takes and lets everyone know he's their shelley long cuz i don't know why else you'd take the show's romantic lead and turn him into a sexless oaf

p much agree, still has lols but its not promising to have as zzzz an ep plot structure as the tinder/weed 1 so early in the season

not watched the new series yet, but feel they screwed the pooch v badly at the end of s3

yeah.

second episode was better than first, but it's all pretty broad slapstick and sex and wackiness. not a lot of plot or heart.

yeah, it seems they're just trying tobring to yuks now--which is cool--but I'm contnet to catch up on this show next summer on Netflix.

I lolled hardcore at this week's 'cumin' gag but yeah, this show is treading water and has been for a while. I assumed when it started that the show would be a bunch of nutty kooks yelling at each other and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to have some depth, but now it seems to be devolving into exactly that.

Mostly it just makes me wish 'Happy Endings' was still around :(

Before I start trying to download any of the new episodes, are they giving anything cool for Winston to do this season? Because he was woefully underused last season.

They've moved on the Winston-at-police0academy storyline a bit but 'woefully underused' is otm. Which is tragic, because he is one of TV's most wonderfully odd characters.

he's so well played. so much potential. he got totally shafted last season. coach sucks.

i love the cast right now - especially Hannah Simone getting more screen time - but they're still struggling to get time for all six. coach and winston pretty screwed this past week. that said, still a funny episode. also, nice to see Michaela Watkins, though I wonder what happened to Schmidt's old boss/occasional hook-up

the writers have been raving about the fact that they got fisting jokes in an episode. reminded me of that Growing Pains spin-off Just The Ten Of Us about a dude with 5 daughters. that was also staffed by bored people with nothing better to do than see what the censors would let them get away with.

i mean now that they've recanted on evolving anyone beyond "goofball who is adorable because we say so" what else is there to do

The micropenis episode was the last one I watched.

This weeks was the best episode of the season, maybe best of last two seasons. Not a lot of humanity, but fast and funny as it's every been.

Yes. I disagree. I thought it was a lot of fun.

Man, I actually think this season is a huge step up from the back half of last season. It has its ups and downs, but I'd rather see the ridiculous slapstick stuff like the meth episode than the hamfisted relationship bullshit.

I stopped watching this last season. It seemed to really have begun to suck, from out of nowhere. Is it still awful?

It's still OK if you think of it as "The Coach and Winston show plus ZoDesh does some slapstick."

season 3 really sucked for a while (imo "birthday" through the end of the linda cardellini stretch, and i say that as linda cardellini) but got funny again in its last few eps, S4's been on and off laffs-wise. wayans jr is great. i wish they'd quit it with the endless "every character meets the perfect person who is perfect for them in every way and then they suddenly have to break up" cycle. just marry nick/jess schmidt/cece coach/winston and move on.

i dont mind the schmidt/cece thing but i thought them killing off nick and jess so quickly was weird. nick and schmidt are "self" "parodies" at this point but get some laughs, i find wayans irritating, not even winston has been doing it for me lately, but honestly i still laugh 3-4 times an episode which is enough for 22 minutes

when it's funny it's funny.

nick/jess in S3 was horrible, both together and not. it sucks when they lean on their great will-they-won't-they run-up for a season and then have no idea what to do when the actual relationship starts. so they just run through all the sitcom tropes. nick came out of it with all his edges sanded off and he's been mostly tough to watch since.

i'm apparently the only one who hates what they've done to winston?? he started off as an actual human being, they didn't really know what to do with him, so they turned him into a cartoon vegetable who needs to be reminded how to walk and which hole food is supposed to go into. the "winston loves puzzles and winston has literally no idea how a puzzle works" story made me want to punch a wall. S4's been better but that was all he was in S3.

see this is pretty much how i felt about s3, tbh. but if you promise there's lots of Winston in it now I just might check it out.

jess' disappearing/reappearing nail polish is really cluing me in on many scenes take multiple days to shoot apparently

The Nick/Jess vaudeville routine ("They all smell terrible!" "I'm a good friend, but I'm not that good a friend!") had me breathless & in tears.
