a bunch of whiners, that's what I say. I'm fed up of competitions as to who has suffered the most, or attempts to curry sympathy by riding the coattails of official sadness over 11-9.

Has anyone said it about something worse than September 11th?

Actually I think I remember some bonehead saying it about PRINCESS DIANA DYING!

Dud, but so is "9/11 is the worst thing to ever happen to anyone ever", IE it's the comparising that's the dud factor.

I've heard some Irish commentator saying it of the Omagh bombing (and maybe saying that in proportional terms the Omagh bomb was worse.

yes. otm. The whole idea of hierarchies of suffering is a bit dodge.

having said that, I like the idea of referring to things I don't like as the 11/9 of whatever category they fall into (e.g. 12" remixes).
