I need a desk that isn't too expensive, is relatively compact but able to house a laptop, large hd tv monitor, preferably a few drawers, somewhere to store and play a midi keyboard as well as a remote typing keyboard. Argos stuff seems a bit mickey mouse.- where else should I look? Anyone bought a desk recently they're pleased with?

five years pass...

bump. i'm struggling to find a decent computer desk with at least passable ergonomics. i'd previously been living with this IKEA desk which suited me for its footprint in a new york apartment (42" wide including some storage) and not being hideous or looking like a suburban parent picked it out. however the ergonomics were very poor; i modified the center drawer into being a keyboard tray but that was still at the wrong height.

not really interested in jumping to a standing desk necessarily, but something where you can adjust the height of the desktop seems like a good idea. most important i think is having a keyboard tray or alternately a desktop that extends forward enough over your knees that you can be in correct typing/mousing posture with the monitor still a correct distance from your face. i have weird shoulder issues that are massively set off/exacerbated by reaching forward unnaturally to use PC components so i really can't fuck around on this part.

googling for this is hopeless, you either find $3,000 bespoke standing desks with pushbutton adjustment and so on, or like $125 things from hazy-sounding companies where all the reviews are complaining about how it took six hours to put together and was missing pieces and then fell apart. anybody found anything good out there???
