Villa - West Ham game has been predictably poor. Villa had the best of the first half an hour, looked tidy in possession without being able to do an awful lot with it. Karim El Ahmadi looks like he could become a big player for us. With 15 or so to go the West Ham long ball routine started paying off a bit, new Villa CB Ron Vlaar looking less like a footballer and more like an amateur wrestler atm. needs to stop giving away free-kicks.

I was in the audience for CDUK once. Before the show starts you get hectored for an hour by a guy doing standup, among which is applause practice - actual practice of whooping, clapping enthusiastically and gurning behind Cat Deeley, or Ant & Dec, or whoever the presenter was.

It is bewilderingly exhausting giving it all out, hands above your head, for even thirty seconds - try it, if you're alone. So I got mad respect for those Leeds fans who applaud Gary Speed at length, and indeed for tifosi everywhere.
