A question about spaghetti.

This may sound kind of silly but hey that's just me. Does anyone else here prefer spaghetti hoops to straight cut spaghetti? I do but I don't know why. Madness.

ok i have some pasta someone gave me as a present which is BLACK!! it tastes fine (i kinda expected it to be licorice flavour ew ew luckily no) but why is it black?

spaghetti hoops from a tin are way too soggy

Black pasta is coloured with squid ink.

Tinned pasta = not nice

C J (C J), Thursday, 19 September 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

In this country, all the tinned pasta is smothered in a pretty sickly-sweet tomato sauce. Otherwise, I'm not terribly fussed about shape, though hoops are easy - you can hook them on the fork, and there is none of this nasty sucking it in business, where it flicks at the last minute and you have sauce in your eye. Not good on a date, especially. (Actually, the last date I went on where we ate, I did have spaghetti. What a fool!)

martin, better spaghetti than ribs or wings!!

(not that, uh, i've made that mistake before.)

I love pasta. Pasta with salad and garlic bread. Yummy. Did you meet your date again Martin?

Yes, Jess: you are in all kinds of trouble if you try to suck ribs up.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 20 September 2002 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

straight are better, if you're lazy (like me) not as much effort goes into eating it, you can suck. I like sucking!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 20 September 2002 08:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Had some yummy multicolored pasta hats the other night. Child-like fun for food snobs!

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 20 September 2002 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if our hoops are identical to your spaghettios. Ours are circles of spaghetti, obviously the size of hoops - those things you throw the ball through in basketball, about a foot across. They come in packs not unlike those used for pizzas.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 September 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't post to this, I'm too much of a pasta snob. Blame my heritage.

Mark S, did you eat your black apsta with a fish sauce? It must have tasted a bit odd otherwise!

What's the singular of spaghetti?

"I will have a single spaghettum… without sauce, please."…?

Very Gelb; thanks for asking. (fake penthouse letters mcgee), Saturday, 7 December 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

Spaghetti is the plural form of the Italian word spaghetto, which is a diminutive of spago, meaning "thin string" or "twine".[1]
