I just remember her appearances on the Match Game and the Muppets Show.. and her trademark "Ha... HAAAAA" laugh. But what did she actually, you know, do?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:05 (twenty-three years ago)

ron (ron), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

This is true - as far as I know she's the only mc to work with both Big Youth and Schooly D (did Brett Somers ever work with Schooly D?)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

She's also a hell of a lay, according to Ned anyway :^)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

She was a comedienne in the 60s, no? And she was famous for having plastic surgery, too, I think.

What did Brett Somers do besides Match Game?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:47 (twenty-three years ago)

She's a comedienne and plastic surgery advocate.

Simultaneous posts hooray.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:49 (twenty-three years ago)

And just who's J.P. Morgan?

Sean (Sean), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Brett Sommers was married to Jack Klugman, I think.

It's Jaye P. Morgan, and I don't know what else she did other than Match Game, sorry.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Jaye P. Morgan was on the Gong Show! Where is she now?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 20 September 2002 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 20 September 2002 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 20 September 2002 05:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I want jess' show to be on Match Game Monday!

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 20 September 2002 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

My version would be Match Game PM (send the kiddies to bed!): Me, Brett Somers & Charles Nelson Reilly (I can't break up the team), Earl Weaver, Blowfly, & David Lynch.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 20 September 2002 06:02 (twenty-three years ago)

David Lynch in the Richard Dawson role.

Really, really important--not 100% sure, but she may have been the first female to do what's thought of as stand-up today (I think the Joan Rivers documentary credited her as such).

clemenza, Monday, 20 August 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

I'd always feel better, a little lighter, after seeing her on tv (which, granted, got far less often over the last decade or so).

I've been looking at some of her '60s and '70s clips on YouTube--I think she beat Cher in inventing Lady Gaga.

clemenza, Monday, 20 August 2012 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

CNN just had Joan Rivers on the phone, and she said that yes, Phyllis was the first female to do 100% stand-up. She drew a distinction with Totie Fields, who came along around the same time but who also incorporated some singing into her act.
