i was told by someone in ny that i look precisely like an asian version of louis theroux. lt is apparently a bbc personality of some sort. so, what's this guy's deal and does he pull chicks?

Louis is way cool!...he presents a show called "Weird Weekends" he goes and meets people like Survivalists, porn stars, wrestlers, evangalists, people getting Thai brides and general wackos. He also did interviews with Jimmy Saville and Paul Daniels, which were among the best TV shows ever. He is kinda cheeky and is always trying to wind people up, in a very detached sacracastic British way!...I've been told I look like him!...I think he does have a girlfriend!...Did a quick google search, there's a website all about him here: http://www.internettrash.com/users/louis_theroux/

What's more, LT's current gf works on reception at the same place i work!! (or at least, she is someone he stepped out with several times recently: sadly my goss radar doesn't stretch that far across the org, and the queenpin of dish is currently on holiday).

Does he pull? He is geeky, tho not ridiculously so. His stunt — re interviewing "weird foax" — is to be recessive, and not seem as clever as he is, and let them come to him, mad guns blazing. IMAO he is not actually as clever as he quite thinks he is, but he is not evil.

His persona, and the way he allows his subjects to make fools of themselves is a kind of more cartoon-like update of the old Alan Whicker shows.

I loved his programme with Jimmy Saville, mainly because he got such a great balance between totally ridiculing the man and making nasty, cheap shots, and holding him in great esteem. I was left feeling that Saville was, in himself, a very sad man (as in personally sad, not anorak sad) and Theroux seemed to know that, and totally avoided passing crude judgement either way. One of the most sensitively-made documentaries of the last few years.

He's aces man. last thing i seen him in he was among this horrible community of KKK-type maggots somewhere in the american south - they talked all the usual poisonous shit & he just let 'em & was just all cool & calm & dry & british - & you knew these were people who if the camera crew hadn't've bin there would've lynched his ass just 'cause he looks like such a fuckin jew (don't even know if he is but it was pretty obvious they all assumed he was). that was just CHOICE.

Mr Theroux wants to be Jon Ronson when he grows up.

You don't really want to look like him. But it could be worse, you could be told you look like Jimmy Saville.

He does have a girlfriend (or at any rate has an imaginary one as he refers to her on TV) so he has pulled one chick.

Most girls I know think he's way cute, so you're onto a winner, sundar.

My wife is on record as saying she'd "drink a tub of his bathwater". Which might not be the sort of back-to-my-place action you had in mind, but it's something...

eight months pass...
Apparently he is a commitmentphobe.

URGENT AND KEY QUESTION: well i take it you're in the US Sundar, but have you ever hung out at a place in North London called The Elbow Rooms? cos i was there about a month ago and there was a guy who was the SPIT of Louis Theroux, only Asian. WAS IT YOU???

katie, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

WHich Elbow Rooms Katie. Surely not the one with the two way mirror in the ladies toilet to look into the blokes lavvy.

Pete, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yus indeed Pete it is that one, the one in Islington N. London. and you blokes are NOT SUPPOSED TO KNOW of the existence of the 2 way mirror!!

katie, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

But it works TWO WAYS, katy. We look through at you, you look through at us..

Nick, Louis just got divorced. He was married to girl he met at Oxford, apparently. His brother Marcel is very nice.

suzy, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i have it on good authority that it only works 2 ways if you blokeys get RIGHT UP to the mirror and press your noses against the glass. the lighting ensures that we gurlies can see what you are up to a whole lot better, o ho ho ho!!

katie, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It's all my fault Katie, if I had not oh-so-classily passed out in the ladies' on my birthday a few years ago Pete would never have had to come in after me. Sadly I was too out of it to appreciate the view of North London's finest pissing.

Emma, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Uh, 2-way mirror which works both ways = window, surely?

Tim, Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No, you're right. We have to get quite close. But not THAT close. I think all 2 way mirrors have this flaw to some extent.

Tim, I assume they are called '2 way' cause you can see the same thing on both sides of them (except for when you get up close on the supposedly mirrored side)

N., Monday, 25 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sorry, I didn't really read what you said Tim. You're right.

I live in Canada. The only times I've been in London, England are when I had to transfer flights in Heathrow airport. I didn't leave the airport.
