mike (ro)bott, Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete and I (and Carsmile and other ppl who dont post here hello lurkaz) went and paid good money to see whole reels of old AdvertXoR at the ICA today. It was ace! They have driven today's puny specimens from my mind - none can match the grandeur of OLD JAMAICA with pirates.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

My favorite new/old ad was seen at the Cadbury factory in Dunedin, when they showed some ad from the 1970s for Crunchie bars. When the Nazis showed up to try and blow up the Old West train carrying the bars, I knew I was in heaven.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

First Ave (near Battery) still has a huge mylackey.com ad painted on the side of a building- "Trust fund not required." It's so high up- and you have to standing on the east side of the road, facing south, to see it at all- that I wonder how many people even know it's there anymore.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Most annoying?

"It's been [power chord] one week since you looked at me..."

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 21 September 2002 22:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Im not a hata so i only say that the new Guarana Antarctica ad with Ronaldo shaving his head cos the animation of Cascão says its a copy from his. And the Cavalera newspaper ad with just this pic of two women in purple clothes smiling and "Latin America's original trend: Since 1995" written. I guess its so different from other fashion ads that i jsut cant help to like it

vic (vicc13), Saturday, 21 September 2002 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and i meant taht both of these are grebt ads

vic (vicc13), Saturday, 21 September 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

it really is amazing that they STILL run that barenaked ladies/mitsubishi ad. 9 months ago i was thinking SURELY this must end soon.

now i expect "days go by and still i think of you..." mitsubishi ad will be fazed out in late 2005.

OH and the worst part of the BL ad is when the dude puts in a little vibrato when he sings along to the word "sayin'"

Aaron A., Saturday, 21 September 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I HATE the commercial for Motrin, in which the voiceover says (something like): "When your kid is sick, you give them Children's Motrin. When you have a headache, don't you wish there was a mom's Motrin? Well, there is...Motrin."

No shit.

nory (nory), Saturday, 21 September 2002 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Agreed on the Mitsubishi hipster shit.......and any of the precious "inspiring" unity ones where they go from person to person (usually different countries) staring at the camera, each of them going "I am ___________"......usually for a fuckin murderin theivin BANK no less.......anything with skateboards or snowboards, and I hate people that don't have a problem with these ones......these people probably don't understand why SNL's skit about KFC "shredders" (the X-Treme lettuce treat!) is funny......I want to throttle yall with Avril Lavigne's necktie........the ads for Girls Gone Wild on BET late night because it reminds me I have to go buy or bootleg the newest tape pronto, and when the hell have GGW tapes ever had black chicks.......yo but I love the Tampax one with that adorable chick with that hilarious voice that says "ya cant even FEEL em!".....she sounds like that My Little Pony underboss, whatever the fuck HER name was.....Telemundo shits and the Orkin man copping an attitude are teh bomb as well

Ramosi, Sunday, 22 September 2002 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Rejoice at the return of Ramosi! I know I am.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 22 September 2002 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

You're gettin' a Dell, dude.

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 22 September 2002 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Ugh! I forgot about the Dell guy...he really needs to go.

nory (nory), Sunday, 22 September 2002 03:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Any commercial with a Jeff Goldblum voiceover.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 22 September 2002 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

What about that terrible Chevy(?) truck commercial with Aerosmith's craptacular "Just Push Play"?

mmesker (mmesker), Sunday, 22 September 2002 04:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Zoom zoom zoom.

Mark C (Mark C), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I have grown to wuv the Zum zum zum advert - mostly because I like to imagine Harry Hill singing it in a kind of Heather Small voice.

That yoghurt ad about "good kinds of bacteria" is rubbish though. And the Levis "Rub yourself". And that one about how "OK" is the most popular word in the world, and wouldn't it be better if "What if" was instead? And the Argos one with REG. And the one for Welch's fruit drinks.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:42 (twenty-three years ago)

The car ads about the whole new dimension in cars where the big idea turns out to be indicators which flash differently at different speeds!

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Zoom zoom zo-*gunshot, screaming, first against the wall when the revolution comes etc*

Ess Kay (esskay), Sunday, 22 September 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I am beginning to LOATHE the Apple ads. I don't know if marketing your computers for inarticulate morons is quite the way a company should go, even if they are shiny.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Sunday, 22 September 2002 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

"Dude, you should relax!"

"Has your car insurance gone up in the last year? Bet it has!"

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 22 September 2002 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

god! you uk ppl there are SO many klangers out there today.

no #1 that FUCKING lenor(?) ad where that DISGUSTING smug guy is SMELLING his guests as part of the lamest dinner party ever. who has ever played that game ever!???!

no#2 that insane nonsense moisturiser ad with the post-coital couple "do you need anything?" "no, i'm ok for another 80 days"

bob zemko (bob), Sunday, 22 September 2002 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot the new The Link ad:

"You text a lot, right?"
"W-w-why, yes! How did you know?"
Smug grin "Just a guess!"

And I thought it could get no worse than using a Shed Seven song.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Sunday, 22 September 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, the deodourant one where they kissing people's arm pits! That's just not right.

I am a big fan of the Britta water filter couple, will they start a family or not??

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 September 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Red Bull's godawful Euro-styled cartoon ads especially the one with the RAF people and ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY the cannibal one - where is the fucking ASA when you need it?

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 22 September 2002 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

what about...
we all do dumb things, paying too much for car insurance shouldn't be one of them...
or the AFLAC commercials

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

the aerosmith commercial is actually a dodge commercial and it is funny cause my brother works for daimler-chrysler and there is a big stink cause everyone thinks it is an aerosmith commercial, no idea they are meant to notice the truck on which they spent billions remaking.

keith (keithmcl), Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell did they expect? I love it when common sense goes out the window...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

That fucking Juicyfruit ad with the weightlifting kids screaming at the top of their lungs. They play it like eight times an hour during Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network and only Zorak's complete and utter awesomeness can put that ad's horribleness out of my head.

Nate Patrin, Monday, 23 September 2002 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I cast a second vote for STEVEN -- THE DELL DUDE!

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 September 2002 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

all those cumshot orgasm shampoo showergel blowjob icecream ones

spectra, Monday, 23 September 2002 06:08 (twenty-three years ago)

The Elevenses ad with the woman who keeps saying "Just typical"... "oh, typical - a healthy snack, it's bound to taste... ohhh". Why in heaven's name would you buy something in the expectation that it was going to taste foul?

Oh, and the BT broadband ad - simply because it looks like it cost £10million to make and WHERE DID THAT COME FROM, EH? From sneaking an extra fiver onto my (bog standard) line rental and hoping I wouldn't notice (true fact), that's where.

I like the "Rub Yrself" ad cos I like the music.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 23 September 2002 06:12 (twenty-three years ago)

'Happy bacteria'!!!! I mean!! How great an advert could they have devised with only the premise of HAPPY BACTERIA but yet how RUB!! The damn child! Yakult you will never ever get it right until you change the name of your product to HAPPY BACTERIA (all this post copyright ME tm ect ect) so get with the program and the smelling of the coffee!!

Although ha ha the geek on the other advert is funny. The GURL is a wet and a weed and should be ELIMINATED.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 September 2002 07:36 (twenty-three years ago)

no that advert is good because it gives mute geeks hope that just by mentioning bacteria they can still pull!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:23 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hey check out my bacteria!"

Tom (Groke), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, the mute geek is GREBT but the chick is a moron and as for her BRANEDEAD mate well hem-hem need I say more abt the blanket lobotomies carried out on TV blondes when Hollyoaks first started airing...

The Halifax advert with Mangus in it however is a masterpiece of our times, cunningly reversing the cult of POP STARS... oh actually no it is a cockfarming waste of time too and the only reason that I haven't changed my bank account is that EVERY OTHER BANK IS WORSE!! Barclays??? NEVER! Bloody HSBC "local bank"??? Ma vie est Cheltenham!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:31 (twenty-three years ago)

haha the gurl in the white hovis cartoon ad reminds me of starry!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:58 (twenty-three years ago)

The worst offenders are those radio ones for Vodaphone.

"Why does toast always land bitter side down?"
"Why I am asking inane questions even five year olds would reject as cliched?"
"And where can i get a sexy new mobile?"
"One more question [goes into smug overdrive] How are you?"

Considering firebombing vodaphone headquaters, that's how I am lady.

Oh God and the awful Blockbuster ones with someone reading out half the plot in primary school play way with really odd over-emphasis. "Vanilla Sky is the story of man *who* has everything and wants *more* and then *looses* everything. Tom Cruise plays a *man* who leaves Cameron Diaz to find *true* love with Penelope Cruz, but then gets*thrown* into a nightmare world of *chaos* and confusion"

How the fuck has all that stayed in my brain? But now I never want to see the film.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

the Coors Lite commercial with the guy whining over the Alternative™ guitar music about all the things he loves

"and TWINS"

now it has a Monday Night Football version, too. ugh. Bring back the alcoholism glorification boys' night out Coors Litte commercials instead. Anything is better than

"AND TWINS"

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 05:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Look! It's a face!
Look! It's a face!

Go away Orange.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The SoBe ads, because they have pointed out I have been pronouncing the product wrong for years. The Coors Lite ad used to bug me, but the repetition of the song has numbed me to where I don't hate it anymore (I even find myself singing along!)

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

so do you love twins? they run in my fambly

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Even if I didn't before, the ad has convinced me I do.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I have to say all car commercials. they rarely show the cars doing what they will really be doing ie sitting in a traffic jam. if a traffic jam is displayed, the commercial implies that by owning such and such a car, these jams will be avoided, and the purchaser will be able to drive 5 minutes out of the city and arrive at a glacier or the grand canyon.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
and, the award for Worst Actress in a Televison Commercial, August 2005, goes tooooooo:

The woman at the end of the AOL commercial that slides her chair out of her cubicle to say "I smell cake." IT'S THREE FREAKIN' WORDS, COULD YOU BE ANY MORE UNCONVINCING?

Must be the sister of the director or something.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

AND ENOUGH WITH THE ELF VOICES.

CONGRATULATIONS, MR. MARCONI-AWARD-WINNER! YOU'VE DISCOVERED PITCH CONTROL!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Wait until she sees the Silver Bullet chug through the years. I think that it blows Bill Walsh's hat off at one point.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 22 December 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

I actually "like" that one better than the original version of the Bullet Train ad, where they bring snow...TO NEW ENGLAND. Yes, that's what they need, up there. Snow. And lots of it. During the football season. Cos it's not ever cold in FUCKING BOSTON.

Tho, if you note, the Patriots cheerleaders are doing double ad duty this year: the Coors ad...and that horrible Bud ad where someone is singing about how drinking Bud makes you an American!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

They kind of make me miss the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. At least they picked products and stuck by them.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

That snow train commercial was relevant for about two weeks.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 22 December 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Virgin Mobile's awful "Chrismahanukwanza" ad.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Thursday, 22 December 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

the purpose of the snow train to Boston was based on the fact the Patriots kick ass in snow games.
