isnt it just so rude when people stare at you for no reason you can fathom?
does it make you wonder if you have something odd stuck to your head/face or does it simply verify to you what you knew all along.........your absolutely stunning good looks get em every time.?

donna (donna), Sunday, 22 September 2002 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Its usually because you have a piece of spinach stuck on your teeth.

gazza, Sunday, 22 September 2002 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

people do not stare at me

ron (ron), Sunday, 22 September 2002 04:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I always get intimidated by people who make a lot of eye contact while talking to me. It's unnatural.

petra jane (petra jane), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:37 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, I just assume they are mesmerised by my movie star good looks.

Though, seriously, I'm very aware of the eye contact thing, and I try not to get freaked out by it.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i like people who stare. cos its rude. and it gives me the opportunity to glare back, which is quite a grand passtime.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I never lose a stare out. I should've put staring on the ILE skillz thread.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

jel my friend you have not met me! *stares*

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:31 (twenty-three years ago)

when people stare at me, I usually assume that they are trying to pull. Sigh.

(This isn't just arrogance, it's projection. If I see a lad I fancy in a club, usually I'l stare at him for quite some time before working up the drunken courage to approach him. It often works, because the Cute Boy is so relieved that he HASN'T got spinach stuck in his teeth or something that he will dance with me/buy me a drink/go home with me/whatever.)

In public places, however, total dud. Dude, get a camera. It'll last longer.

kate, Sunday, 22 September 2002 09:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The only people who stare at me are babies and toddlers, if they count as people. I have no idea why.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Babies and toddlers are NOT people?

Does that mean we can EAT them now?

Eating people is wrong...

kate, Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

''i like people who stare. cos its rude. and it gives me the opportunity to glare back, which is quite a grand passtime.''

I do sometimes stare! because i know it's rude. i especially do it if i had a bad day. just for the fun of it!

and if they stare, yes, i stare back. GRATE!!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 22 September 2002 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Now I can't get that one Police song out of my hand. Grg.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

isn't a club a public place?

ron (ron), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I assume it either has something to do with my shabby clothes or my wild unshaven madman look..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, you're not that wild looking Jim. Though I shivered involuntarily more than once that night, but that must have been the cold. Wait, it wasn't cold...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

It makes me uncomfortable. I always assume the person is staring either because a. I look really funny/weird that day for one reason or another or b. they are a twisted stalker type who is trying to size up the best way to trundle me off into their van (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little here, but you all probably am familiar with the kind of creepy stare I'm talking about).

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I stare at people all the time. It's fun to make them squirm. And also sometimes there is lots of random smiling coming out of it and it's nice. When I'm staring at someone better-looking than I am and they stare back, I get embarrassed and look away, though. Not sure why.

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i got stared at today. a creepy looking man stumbled out of the crown hotel (at LUNCHTIME hello drunkard) and commented on my nice dress. then he hoiked. it didn't impress me.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 September 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't understand it. i must be either gorgeous or really odd looking.. it can't just be the pink shirt that looks like i slept in it.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 22 September 2002 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

When people stare, I try to convince myself that it's a look of jealousy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
But when I know I am being watched, I just try to remember not to pick my nose.

Perry Bernard (panterus), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I like to wave at people and then they tend to stop.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 23 September 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

t can't just be the pink shirt that looks like i slept in it.

No really, it can be. There's a whole primary school full of children opposite my house who like to stare at my hoisery choices on a daily basis.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
People stare at me all the time when I go out. I am very tall and have distinctive looks. I am used to it really as I know I am never going to be Mrs Ordinary. One incident sticks in my mind though from last year. I was waiting at a bus stop when this bloke was riding past, on a pedal bike, on the pavement. He caught sight of me, and of course continued to stare. He was so busy rubbernecking that he went straight into the next lampost! I fell apart laughing, and the bloke looked angry. I thought 'it serves you right mate'. I just wish something like that could happen every day. I can come out with sarcastic comments if people really glare, such as ' I wish I had a pound for every stare I had, I'd be richer than Bill Gates, or 'Oh to be ordinary' with a sigh.

Beverley Hoffman, Friday, 29 August 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone confirm the definition of 'stare' they are using in this thread? Is it all about how long you look at someone? Or whether you break your gaze when you make eye contact? Or what?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It's obviously only staring when it's someone they don't fancy.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"inappropriate" like an old man or old woman etc

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

there is this creepy guy who comes into this bar that i go to, he has white tinted contacts. he stares incessantly. he refuses to look away, even when you yell, "quit staring , milk eyes!" then he cackles at you and gets kicked out.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

milky eyes sound nice

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i don't know about "nice" but they certainly look stiking, especially on a 50 something biker with what appears to be a very severe case of of dandruff on his shaved head.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

no longer sounds nice, dandruff on a shaved head is a new vision of horror

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

people stare at me all the time but i think it's mainly coz i'm such a devastatingly good-looking man...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

that does sound truly horrid...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:24 (twenty-two years ago)

and you can't begin to imagine the stench! he is out to offend all of the senses.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 29 August 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I always get stares because I am white my husband is black..but when people stare I just grab my husband & give him a kiss (toungue included) ...lol!! Works like a charm every time the person quickly looks the other way...lol
