Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 23 September 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

From the US. Been to Canada, USVI, England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, France, The Netherlands, Japan, S. Korea and Taiwann. My wife has been to England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, The Netherlands, and USVI. The only places in that list where the purpose of the trip wasn't some cool choral gig were USVI (honeymoon) and Canada (various family/friend trips).

If someone happens to know of a group that needs ringers to augment their choir or a soprano soloist, drop me a line. All you'll have to do is pick up airfare and put us up for a few days; we come pretty cheap.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 September 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay Ned. Come to Oxford and I will fail to show you ducks and geese (injoke that other party may not even remember). Except I might not still live here by then, but then I said I'd have moved by last January and I'll probably still have failed to. Also London scares me and Bristol appears to have no public transport after 10pm so at this rate even if I do move out of the middle of nowhere it will probably just be to Oxford itself.

Oh, um, California and bits of Western Europe, that's all. Lots of record shops though. Help, I'm turning into that not-really-Tanya article...

Rebecca (reb), Monday, 23 September 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Another trip to Oxford could be managed, I'm sure. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 September 2002 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Hooray! Actually if I am still so rubbish that I can't even get into London for an evening then yes, you should come to Oxford, and you should shoot me...

Rebecca (reb), Monday, 23 September 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I would never shoot you, Rebecca, that would be rude.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 September 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Good luck with the whole moving thing Rebecca. Get on with it.

(And of course I do)

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, USA, New Zealand, Canary Islands, Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, Greek Islands, Barbados and Japan (if a night's stopover counts).

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

France, Spain, Portugal, Canaries (technically Spain, but the nearest to Africa I've got), Germany, Belgium, Lichenstein, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Cyprus, Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Denmark, a bit of Yugoslavia when I was younger.

I told someone last week that I'd never left Europe, but I've just realised I spent 2 weeks in Mexico. So there you go.

Simeon (Simeon), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread is just an excuse to show off!

Anonymous, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been to Paradise (but I've never been to me).

Fidelma, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in the UK and am the proud owner of a passport with two out of three in the 'Axis of Evil' travel stamps collection. I don't think I could get into the US anymore.

That is, i've been to Most W European countries, plus...
North Korea, Iran, Israel, China (7 times I think, losing count) - Hong Kong and Macau too - Poland, Morrocco, Pakistan, Russia, India

jon (jon), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

North Korea, Iran

Those must have been experiences -- what were they like?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Couldn't be more different. North Korea the most scary and oppressive experience of my life. Tried hard to find the 'truth' and the 'good side' but couldn't. The most controlled, strange place on the planet. I published something on the visit - let me know if you're interested and I'll send you a link. Or ask more questions.

Iran quite the opposite: Fantastic architecture and poetry, fantastic people, fantastic food; one of the world's great cultures. I'd go back tomorrow. Even the politics is underestimated: sure it's a crap religious regime, but it's also a kind of democracy with a large, cosmopolitan and well-educated middle class (by which I include religious leaders as well as teachers, etc).

jon (jon), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

can you give me a link if that's OK.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, how do you do this?

www.lrb.co.uk/v22/n15/cann2215.htm

does that work?

enjoy...

jon (jon), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

it works. cheers.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I been to New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment.

Mandee, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

jon, I think if you put the http:// on the front it'll magically turn it into a clickable link too. Sorry, I'm not really nitpicking, I just thought I'd say in case you were wondering. (This is one of the many joys of the new board, we used to have to faff around doing it the long way and half the time it would break. Yay nu-ILX!)

Like this (I hope, or I will look like a prize idiot, not unusually):
http://www.lrb.co.uk/v22/n15/cann2215.htm

Rebecca (reb), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

And if you put it in places that aren't a link you can confuse everyone, as you see. :) (Er, oops, sorry.)

Rebecca (reb), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

but thans for the tip!

jon (jon), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

From the US. I've been to Canada, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, India, and I think that's it outside of stopovers.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 18:35 (twenty-three years ago)

or just cut and paste links!
