Joss Whedon: Buffy Premiere (inevitable UK spoilers, I guess)

If anyone cares to discuss. One person I work with is rather obsessed, so on special occasions I'll ask him what he thought about an episode then just sit back and enjoy the ride: this time it was a 30-minute explication of H.P. Lovecraft mythos and its potential relevance to the end villain-regression / theme-announcement.

Are you sure your friend wasn't channelling Mark S?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned if you'd met this guy you would realize exactly how wrong of that thing to say that was.

Maybe it's like matter and antimatter.

I used to watch Buffy until they put Lorelai and Rory up against it. I tried to dash over during commercials but only got James Marsters promoting some such or other. Last night's GG was nothing astounding; they take their time getting off the ground I think... But they better start doing more wisecrasking, and less, oh no! what about Christopher; and oh no! what the Rory-Jess-Dean triangle--even I've got bored with that one... Nabisco, please tell more about what happened on Buffy? Someone told Buffy she had "mom hair"? Dawn had some problems in her highschool? What else? Any Buffy/Spike sexual tension? Tell all, tell all...

I watched Gilmore Girls once, but I kept expecting the Olsen twins to show up.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 26 September 2002 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole, that's sooooooo wrong. Like, whoa.

I am v. v. fond of the Gilmore Girls but I'm sorry: Buffy.

Please refrain from discussing the Gilmore Girls during the remainder of this thread. Start a Gilmore Girls thread. If I can't watch it I'd like to pretend that it doesn't exist.

so had they ever done that sort of all-the-big-bads-morphing-together thing before? at first I was a little shocked but once they went through so many I figured it was either some key thing I never knew about or something new and exciting.

I forgot that it was only one hour and was expecting two - the plot seemed paced like a two hour episode. the dead people thing was wrapped up really quickly. they arc the episodes like this one sometimes but it seemed especially abrupt.

Josh (Josh), Thursday, 26 September 2002 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole, that's sooooooo wrong. Like, whoa.

You know I'm right. All it needs is an Uncle Jesse, and I'm not talking about Patrin's name for Mr. Harvell.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 26 September 2002 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

It was a good episode.
I think there were so many things to address that the plot pretty much took a backseat, though.

And Spike's hair looks really good.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Friday, 27 September 2002 07:56 (twenty-three years ago)

It looked kind of Timberlake. Fear.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 27 September 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I think they should have held off on returning Spike. It unnecessarily complicated the story arc to no purpose: he could have waited until next week.

Odd: bit in Istanbul at the beginning. (I suppose it will be like the monks creating Dawn, where midway through January we'll suddenly know what that was all about.)

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

That bit in Istanbul most likely has to do with Slayers in Training, but we shall see. I think overall it was a good episode. But season premiers for Buffy have seldom been the strongest.
