Do you wear pyjamas, do you NEED to have the window open, must you have a glass of water readily available, do you visit the "loo" , do you dribble on the pillow, do you SNOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, are you a duvet hogger, do you dream, do you suffer from Somnambulism, do you talk in your sleep, do you fall out of bed, are you an insomniac?

gazza, Thursday, 26 September 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

no, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, no, yes, no, sometimes, not for a while, yes to an extent.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 26 September 2002 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 26 September 2002 10:13 (twenty-three years ago)

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 26 September 2002 10:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep badly, usually because I am too busy at work and at some point in the middle of the night I start thinking about all the things I have nto got round to doing, or about how my boss is a COCKFARMER.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 26 September 2002 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i either sleep really late, after reading and watching television, or sleep v. early, because their is nothing on. I need to have one or two glasses of water or juice, keep the window open, be naked, have music playing. Often I wank right before bed because it calms me.

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 26 September 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

yes (sleeping naked should be illegal), yes, no, no, yeah, dunno, probably, I dream, what is Somnambulism, nope, nah, I sleep well

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep very well thank you. I like to have a window open, I wear pajamas, I dream lots, I talk in my sleep. I haven't fallen out of bed since I got a double bed.

isadora, Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

No; no; no; sometimes; sometimes; have been accused of this; sheets yes, duvet no; yes; no; a roommate once claimed I gave a lecture during my sleep on different types of skirts; no; often.

I usually find it difficult to fall asleep, but when I do I can sleep through almost anything.

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, no, no (except if drunk), yes, sometimes, no, yes, yes, no, sometimes, no, no. and i find it hard to sleep with others, which is a shame cos i really like cuddles.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

No, No, No. Yes, Yes, Oh Yes. Yes. Yes - insanely. Not any more.
Yes - I'll happily have reasonably coherent conversations. I don't believe it but too many people have told me for it not to be true. I've tried voice activated tape recorders but the noises I recorded were just plain scary - like poltergeist
No.
Yes - Which is highly ironic as yesterday I was dishing out advice on falling asleep. Tonight I'm kept awake by over analysing the advice i gave.

Simeon (Simeon), Friday, 27 September 2002 01:09 (twenty-three years ago)

what the fuck is a duvet?

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 27 September 2002 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

as chic said "I grab my pillow and squeeze it tight."

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 September 2002 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Duvet: solid colored comforter, usually covered by a duvet cover, ie a huge pillow case for your quilt.

My dog always tries to sleep on the end of the bed & gets pissed at me at about 4 AM for kicking him in the face, hops off, and spends the rest of the night on the sofa; so I guess I toss around a lot when I'm sleeping.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't sleep... until the last two desperate hours before I have to get up and leave for work, at which point, I have to have the fan on, covers off and room to stretch out.

luna.c (luna.c), Friday, 27 September 2002 05:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep horizontal most of the time.

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 27 September 2002 07:21 (twenty-three years ago)

why has ronan not answered yet?

mark s (mark s), Friday, 27 September 2002 07:21 (twenty-three years ago)

The ph34r keeps him from sleep.

Graham (graham), Friday, 27 September 2002 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I am a pillow-squeezer. That is the only thing that I don't like about sleeping with someone else in my bed. They take the spare pillow. But then, I suppose, since they are in my bed, I am justified in squeezing them.

kate, Friday, 27 September 2002 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

with my eyes closed.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 27 September 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

my sheets are full of shoe grit and i havent slept at night in forever.
i've been lying in bed slipping in and out of delicious semi-consciousness all day, listening to npr, and today i had a dream where all the news stories were happening simultaneously- in my neighborhood-like there was a huge flood and Bush was talking, and Paul Wellstone was there and lots of rural midwestern types were getting out of their floating trucks and there were missiles and maybe a bank robbery? i like the-world-is-actually-about-8-blocks-across dreams
also today: i wore dirty dirty short shorts; there was a lot of smiling stupidly at the sunlight through the trees out my open window as i sort of rolled around and stretched and tangled up my legs in the kitty and in the blanket. if i had a bedframe i could stick my legs out the window a lot better.

who wants to have a sleeping party!?

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Friday, 27 September 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

tangled up my legs in the kitty

There's yer euphemism.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 28 September 2002 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I always wear pajamas, I have the window open in Summer only, I only need water by the bed if I have been drinking liquor (ie pretty much all the time), I get up to go to the bathroom about once a night, I don't dribble much but I snore like a sailor, I hog the duvet and I kick, of course I dream, I don't sleepwalk, have been known to sleeptalk, have not fallen out of bed since I was a kid, have occasional insomnia but nothing really serious.

rainy (rainy), Saturday, 28 September 2002 02:07 (twenty-three years ago)

with a clear conscience

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 28 September 2002 02:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish I could sleep - I have to get up at six am tomorrow to help a friend move. But I never go to bed this early on a Friday night...

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 28 September 2002 03:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Duvet: solid colored comforter, usually covered by a duvet cover, ie a huge pillow case for your quilt.

This is the queerest description of a duvet I have ever read (but I have not read many).

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 29 September 2002 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn, there goes my new career writing product descriptions...

The correct defintion, from m-w.com:
Main Entry: du·vet
Pronunciation: d(y)u-'vA, 'd(y)ü-"
Function: noun
Etymology: French
Date: 1758
: COMFORTER 2b

lyra (lyra), Sunday, 29 September 2002 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Comforter sounds so sissy. Duvet is much more chic and sophis.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep naked (*gasp*), quite like having the window open, yes I like to have water nearby BUT even better than just a glass I have recently purchased one of those mini office-water-cooler-dispenser thingies from the Gadget Shop which is such fun to keep using so therefore yes, I do visit the 'loo' at least once a night. I do not dribble, don't think I snore (but if I do then I am sure it is just softly and does not require anyone to pinch my nose and cover my mouth and shout "Shut The F*ck Up CJ!!" I *do* talk in my sleep - it is possible to have a whole conversation with me while I am sound asleep and this is rather worrying from my point of view as I have no idea quite what I am saying. I sometimes hog the duvet but only on v cold nights. I have never walked in my sleep. I have only fallen out of bed once, a long long time ago - this involved drunken shenanigins and a single bed so it really wasn't my fault. I have never suffered from insomnia - I can fall asleep anywhere at the drop of a hat.

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Usually in one of two positions - on my back with arms above my head, hands on opposing elbows (it's comfortable I swear) or half on my stomach, diagonal on the bed with my right arm underneath the pillow.

Neither is very companion friendly as the former causes many involunarily violent elbow to head moves in dead of night and latter is very bed hoggy.

Pyjamas no. T-shirt yes. Room cold-ish. Living beside noisy highway means windows closed.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I haven't done this. Naked, always. I used to be told I snore, but that is only true these days when my asthma is noticeably worse than normal. I only drool when I have had too many drugs (legal or otherwise). I have been told that I talk occasionally, and one companion once told me that I sang one night - 'Onward Christian Soldiers', which seems highly implausible to me. He claims I sang a couple of verses, but I only know the couple of lines virtually everyone does. I don't get to sleep very easily, except when very tired or stoned, but I sleep fairly soundly. I don't seem to move around an awful lot.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

seven years pass...

Having one of those days where, even after an apparently normal full night's sleep, I just canNOT seem to snap out of a haze. Drank coffee, am at work, but I keep forgetting things, I broke a plate this morning, etc. What causes this feeling? "Shallow" sleep? I am just useless today.

Oh man, schnitzelwich (admrl), Monday, 27 September 2010 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah I should also mention that it is over 100 degrees here, that might have something to do with it...

Oh man, schnitzelwich (admrl), Monday, 27 September 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

Slept with windows and doors open last night

Oh man, schnitzelwich (admrl), Monday, 27 September 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not an active during sleep person, but last week I dreamed that I entered my room, and there was a rustling under my bed. a moment later, a dog came out, chasing/being chased by a whole mess of wasps, who then saw me and made their way towards me. Given my (irrational) fear of bees/wasps, I got so startled I fell out of bed and planted smack into my oak dresser

u r no man, take the balls (San Te), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:26 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I find if I've had a lot of REM sleep and been jarred out of it, that I'll be more groggy and in a dreamlike state than if I sleep deep and wake naturally. I think it might be related to the whole sleep paralysis thing - maybe that hormone stays around in yr system a bit more than it should, rendering one druggy all day?

cathedral-sized jellyfish in your mind (Trayce), Monday, 27 September 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

ten years pass...

I’ve been waking up at 430 the past three days and struggling to fall back asleep, sucks big time
