I assume you all are at least a little bit dorky because you are reading a message board on the internet, but how many of you are dorky in public? (define dork your own way)

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I define the term, according to many.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I'm very dorky in public. I look sensible enough to be approached for directions.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

My girlfriend says I am one. She can't explain why.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 26 September 2002 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'm more geeky. "Dorky" I associate with a combination of romanticism and clumsyness, as well as a tendency to collect Beanie Babies..."nerdy" is more cerebral, highly intelligent people into computer programs and such ..."geeky" is defined by a childlike obsessive enthusiasm for comics, sci-fi, cartoons, Beck and the like.

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 26 September 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

nancy calls me a "nerd", but then counters with "it's what i like."

dork = penis, after all.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 September 2002 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

dorky=endearing, no?

my friend who i love, cuz shes just great, is kinda dorky. i love it though. my other best friend isnt dorky at all though!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 26 September 2002 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i have the prerequisites down pat: cerebral intrests gone amuck, ability to inadvertently end conversations with acrcane references, healthy respect for comics, and a job at a library.

mike (ro)bott, Thursday, 26 September 2002 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

nah, that's more geek. I think 'dork' implies a degree of physical awkwardness, the inability to run, throw, dribble properly etc.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

hey that is me!

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

don't look the part though...i'm to broad shouldered and "intimidating".

i hear that i look like i work for a living.

mike (ro)bott, Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i'm broad shouldered too, but the paunch, love handles, flat anti-ass, and spindly girl arms prevent me from looking "intimidating."

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I may be more of a flake than a dork.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Flat anti-ass is where it's at. Sure, you might not be able to ride a lawnmower too well but you don't even have to buy super-sized jeans to get that "baggy pants" look so beloved by the kidz today.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

ACTUALLY: my ass/lowerback/upperthighs area is doing this weird thing where it's getting bigger but not actually changing shape. (i.e. my ass is still flat, just bigger. arrgh.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

It's always good to get an ass clarification.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not a dork, geek, nerd or dweeb. Could possibly be a flake or a spaz, tho.

& Nicole is OTM re : "baggy pants" (also helpful are female friends donating clothing due to being aghast at yr threadbare trousers. hips like cinderella!)

Ess Kay (esskay), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

i am not a penis.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 26 September 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

These last few posts have made my head swim.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 September 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I really have no idea what I am.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm pretty dorky sometimes. but it doesnt matter, being a part-time dork isnt so bad.

donna (donna), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

poseur!

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:25 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha....nah it comes naturally

donna (donna), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i just have an innate 'cool' that is usually shining out .....:-)
dorkyness is more like an aberration.
but thats only my view, many would disagree.

donna (donna), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:34 (twenty-three years ago)

To discover ones level of "dorkiness" one only need look as far as ones trousers. Are you trousers pulled up a little too high? Showing just that little tooooo much sock?

gazza, Friday, 27 September 2002 07:59 (twenty-three years ago)

are males naturally more prone to dorkiness?

kiwi, Friday, 27 September 2002 08:18 (twenty-three years ago)

no, loads of girls are dorky. males are more prone to geekiness i think, theres a difference

gareth (gareth), Friday, 27 September 2002 08:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, you def get more male geeks, but a dork is worse than a geek.

Plinky (Plinky), Friday, 27 September 2002 08:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i am a dork cos i carry a lunch box, an insulated rectangular one about the size of the metal ones for kids that i got from target, something that dilbert might use, cos it's cheaper to buy lunch and cos i prefer to know exactly what i'm eating. it's very embarrassing. i need a bigger backpack and a smaller lunch box.

youn, Friday, 27 September 2002 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

if dork= clumsy then yes i am clumsy though not as much as i used to be.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 September 2002 10:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a dork. I have been trying to be a geek, learning C++ for Linux software driver programming but have failed miserably. Guess i'm just tooo cool. B-)

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'm an undercover geek. (At least, I HOPE I'm undercover, like Undercover Brother. That would be so cool.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"Perry. Dan Perry. And no, I'm not related to Lee Perry. Whah Whah Whah."

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

(sample of cows and children crying.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i am a spork

Queen G (Queeng), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Not very - I'm quity muscly and was always good at sports and stuff.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 September 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 27 September 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I was going to say that I was alas very much a dork, but this thread has scared me that it will have connotations I didn't intend. But, er, I'm geeky but with no tech skills, permanently uncool and badly dressed, and clumsy to boot, so yes, and I get looks confirming this every time I allow myself out of the house.

My trousers are not too short, but then I'm the shortest person ever, that would be impossible. Instead they are too long, bunch up on top of my trainers, and threaten to trip me up when I run upstairs. They're also attempting to become hipsters when they aren't designed as such and when I am far too fat to be allowed to wear hipsters, but this is because I have lost small amounts of weight since buying them, so yay anyway. So they're basically the complete opposite of Bernard DOTT dork trousers but at least as dorky. (They make references to eight year old Lucasarts adventure games => they are dorks)

Rebecca (reb), Friday, 27 September 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

i am a dork, but i aspire to nerdiness.

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Sunday, 29 September 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am cool, but in a geeky sort of way

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 29 September 2002 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)
