Revelation of the day

The 'Angry Britney' bootleg of "Baby One More Time" by Frenchbloke is immeasurably better and more memorable than the nothing-much original music. And this I concluded even before the breakdown into Human League's "Love Action." What is your revelation of the day?

"Go ta Sports Hall luv for new NUS c'ards"

Graham (graham), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

NOTHING MUCH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Unpacking 10 big boxes of stationery is not as much like Christmas as I hoped it might be.

NOTHING MUCH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I've said this before tons of times! "Baby One More Time" as it stands was and is incredibly dull and unmemorable in my ears. I think I could only get around to remembering the hook from it about two years after it came out (whereas "Oops" and "Slave" and "Lucky," to name three examples, stuck immediately with me).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, "Baby One More Time" and "Oops I Did It Again" are the same song!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Then it's all in the delivery or something. Look, I'm just telling you what I know! First time I heard "One More Time" I thought, "That was it? Pass." Then some other song came on from the first album and I thought, "MUCH better!"

My iPod is stuck in Luxembourg. Sob.

I realised I hate the father from the show "Happy Days".

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 27 September 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

What has Mr C ever done to you?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 27 September 2002 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

It never does rain in Southern California

luna.c (luna.c), Friday, 27 September 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

the 'dont attack iraq' bus came by.
a young ethiopian shouted 'babylon shall burn'.
I didn't know if he was being biblical or literal, talking about us or them.

jon (jon), Friday, 27 September 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

staying home sick isn't as fun when you're throwing up all over as when you just feel "a bit under the weather"

Maria (Maria), Friday, 27 September 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr. C has a voice that makes me want to see him suffer

Mike Hanle y (mike), Friday, 27 September 2002 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

People with a Norwegian accent saying "higgledy-piggledy" = classic. (Sigh, yes, the most interesting thing I've done all day was watch Vets In Practice, is this what life is supposed to be like? There weren't even very many cats.)

I think I have seen it rain in Southern California and I wasn't even there for very long. It snowed when I was in Mojave, which just felt WRONG.

Rebecca (reb), Friday, 27 September 2002 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

There were a few weird (v. heavy) drops of rain when I was driving by Griffith Park (in Los Angeles) the other day. Also it does rain at certain times of the year (although last season was very dry).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 27 September 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

It rains usually in January and February and sometimes April - hardly ever after that... (and I exaggerate sometimes slightly, just a little)

luna.c (luna.c), Friday, 27 September 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I guessed. I just remain troubled by the wrongness of it snowing in Mojave (this was late April or early May), but for all I know even that's not uncommon.

Rebecca (reb), Friday, 27 September 2002 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree - it shouldn't snow in the desert

luna.c (luna.c), Friday, 27 September 2002 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Revelation of yesterday - I'm turning into a useful goalscorer on the footie pitch. Still knackered though.

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 28 September 2002 08:21 (twenty-three years ago)

It is definitely raining in Los Angeles today! (Londoners chuckle).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Revelation of yesterday - I am shit with powerpoint.

Revelation of today (still more unwelcome) - anyone I can possibly delegate my powerpoint to is even shitter.

(plus the happy reminder that "Double Dutch" by Malcolm McLaren is one of the best singles ever recorded)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Take THAT Albert Hammond.

luna.c (luna.c), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

the phrase "how do you write the history of a culture that is fundamentally amnesiac" is actually from Simon Reynolds, not Josh K.

Ess Kay (esskay), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)
