used to use it a fair bit a while back. just reinstalled the satellite only to find it's changed completely. can you not dl mp3s from there any more? what is rhapsody? why should i/you care?

The RIAA filed legal proceedings against them and eventually they settled out of court, gave the RIAA lots of money, and agreed that the new client (which is presumably what Rhapsody is) would require a paid subscription, to cover the settlement costs promised to the RIAA and royalties for downloaded tracks, and that it could only be used to share tracks that the copyright holders have explicitly agreed could be shared on AG. At least, that's how I understand the situation.

Not dead, though no doubt they're working on it, but I'd say not so easy to use or so concentrated in one place...

I have been subscribing to emuisc. Its 15$ a month, but it seem s pretty worth it. I have downloaded a lot of good stuff.

I can't get Soulseek to work. When it says "pick a server from the list," the list is ALWAYS BLANK, so I never even get it started. the oh-so-helpful faq says, " If you can browse www.soulseek.org then in all probability you should not be getting this message." is there anything free and functional out there?
