Sometimes they have no short-term memory and it is a very real disability.

Passive-aggressive. See also: People who get a big fat kick out of making you bend over backwards to explain yourself when some simple intuition on their part would suffice.

In this respect, stupidity is like indie and love. In no other respects, obv.

fuck me
american guy living in same Berlin student block as gf
a load of us are about to go out and this guy is in her room chattin w me about lolections
so we walk out to join em, and he decides to close the door
naturally my gf has popped out to ask a qn and has left her key in there
ok so shit. this guy's immediate response, after mumbling "sorry", is to fall silent
the rest of em get together and persuade some caretaker guy to come over and unlock the door, a service for which he charges 120 Euros (which is fkn unreasonable, but it's that or not getting back in until Monday evening)
ok so one of the friends lends gf 70 Euros, another 50
this American dude flashes 30 Euros then puts it away when others offer more
now to put this guy into perspective
in Berlin there is a system by which one returns plastic bottles for a payment of 8 Euro cents. it is called "Pfand".
people do it but only really as a token thing when they're at the supermarket.
this guy.
this guy received 450 Euro a month, which is twice as much as my gf.
and yet he is the world's biggest skinflint, even with impending US grad application borne in mind.
every time he goes out, it is with a rucksack, into which he stuffs plastic bottles he finds.
he has been known to climb onto railway lines in his zest for Pfand.
he has been denied entry into clubs because he has turned up with a backpack full of bottles. upon disposing of them, and later leaving the club, he has been known to boast that afterwards he picked up even more than he initialy had.
he has been known to take a 25-minute train journey home for a glass of water. rather than pay for a bottle.
he regards a great night as one in which he breaks even.
and upon denying my gf of her monthly allowance BEFORE the month even started, he mumbled one apology, and then sat there tacitly refusing to atone for his error.
i mean he closed someone else's door when they weren't in the room.
this is never ever ever a good idea.
oh, and he had the fkn temerity to STAY with the group, not exchanging a word, drinking our wine, and returning to her room after it was unlocked to continue imbibing.
he has a stupid fucking beard. this is the stupid part.

I'm going to make this fast because I've got this stupid American holding some bottles for me.
― rubisco (Abbott), Saturday, 1 November 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)
In America, we call people with that behavior towards bottles "bums." Or "winos." Or "hobos."
no, in America we look at our inner selves, if we are a pussy we just talk about what an asshole he is, if we are mentally enamored by anger we fuck this kid up... its not a step towards progress, but its a step towards fucking a guy up just because we feel pissed off. how often do you ever act on anger when you should. trust me, if you freaking flip out, the guy will be scared out of his gorge whether you really flipped out or not. Use the craziness to your advantage when you had the chance and FUCK THIS GUY OVER.

lj i'm not sure why you didn't just say "dude, you need to contribute"
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)
or "mate" or "mensch" or whatever it is you say
This isn't stupid. This is just selfish. Not the same thing at all.
― post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:48 (seventeen years ago)
though possibly also stupid insofar as he seems to have no idea how hated this behaviour makes him
― Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:53 (seventeen years ago)
^^^this, altho the situation is probably the stupidest, most avoidable thing, also this guy's life-priorities are about as blockheaded as it gets imo
― restraint and blindness (Just got offed), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)
also there were about 6 other ppl there, all of whom knew this guy far better than I do, hence why I felt maybe someone else should be the one to approach him. one of them has now pledged to do so.
― restraint and blindness (Just got offed), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:07 (seventeen years ago)
they are stupid for not doing so already!
