Impassioned plea heard by myself last wknd - "Why are you always treating me like I'm stupid? Because I'm NOT! OK I have a really bad memory and I don't concentrate so well and I don't have much general knowledge and most of the time I don't think before I do stuff but that doesn't make me stupid!" So, what does?

Someone standing next to you with one of those T-shirts.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 30 September 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

(People who nervous-laugh about how "bad their memory is" and make you repeat stuff you've said over and over etc. - are they just being passive-aggressive and thus need a kick in the ass, or are they just stupid and also need same? I mean people under the age of 75)

dave q, Monday, 30 September 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

can we make that 41 please?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 30 September 2002 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometimes they are playing a nasty game where they are making you do their bidding to undermine you.

Sometimes they have no short-term memory and it is a very real disability.

Passive-aggressive. See also: People who get a big fat kick out of making you bend over backwards to explain yourself when some simple intuition on their part would suffice.

Jody Beth Rosen, Monday, 30 September 2002 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 30 September 2002 11:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

dave, i was trying to find that picture of myself to post, but i can't, so my hilarious def. is ruined.

suffice to say, if you have to ask lady, you'll never know.

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 30 September 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I bellieve stupid is as stupid does. It hard to define stupidity but you know when you are in its presence - as many people have said to me at a FAP. Don't know why they were saying it to me...

Pete (Pete), Monday, 30 September 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Forrest.

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

"Forrest Gump" is stupid.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

stupid = some of the things i do and have done which can then be put into sub-slots of stupid/funny, stupid/silly, and just plain bluddy STUPID.
but i'm not stupid......oh no not me.

donna (donna), Monday, 30 September 2002 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah - but can you tell 'stupid' by looking at someone's music collection?
And what would be in it, hmmmm?

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 30 September 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

stupid = something that irritates you

ron (ron), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

It hard to define stupidity but you know when you are in its presence

In this respect, stupidity is like indie and love. In no other respects, obv.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 07:51 (twenty-three years ago)

N. is wrong. Indie = stupidity = love. But not jazz.

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I was being iwonic.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Define 'stupid'

Well duh!

I apologise

Sofa King Alternative (Sofa King Alternative), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Is there a recognised developmental period in which kids take to calling everything 'stupid'?

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes it's called indie

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 2 May 2004 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"there are no stupid answers, just stupid people."

i've got a terrible memory, raped by drink, but i'm spontaneous and hence, not stupid. in some respect.

matthew james (matthew james), Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like "fresh" or "dope." Esp. in combination. "Stupid fresh."

Skottie, Sunday, 2 May 2004 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

fuck me

american guy living in same Berlin student block as gf

a load of us are about to go out and this guy is in her room chattin w me about lolections

so we walk out to join em, and he decides to close the door

naturally my gf has popped out to ask a qn and has left her key in there

ok so shit. this guy's immediate response, after mumbling "sorry", is to fall silent

the rest of em get together and persuade some caretaker guy to come over and unlock the door, a service for which he charges 120 Euros (which is fkn unreasonable, but it's that or not getting back in until Monday evening)

ok so one of the friends lends gf 70 Euros, another 50

this American dude flashes 30 Euros then puts it away when others offer more

now to put this guy into perspective

in Berlin there is a system by which one returns plastic bottles for a payment of 8 Euro cents. it is called "Pfand".

people do it but only really as a token thing when they're at the supermarket.

this guy.

this guy received 450 Euro a month, which is twice as much as my gf.

and yet he is the world's biggest skinflint, even with impending US grad application borne in mind.

every time he goes out, it is with a rucksack, into which he stuffs plastic bottles he finds.

he has been known to climb onto railway lines in his zest for Pfand.

he has been denied entry into clubs because he has turned up with a backpack full of bottles. upon disposing of them, and later leaving the club, he has been known to boast that afterwards he picked up even more than he initialy had.

he has been known to take a 25-minute train journey home for a glass of water. rather than pay for a bottle.

he regards a great night as one in which he breaks even.

and upon denying my gf of her monthly allowance BEFORE the month even started, he mumbled one apology, and then sat there tacitly refusing to atone for his error.

i mean he closed someone else's door when they weren't in the room.

this is never ever ever a good idea.

oh, and he had the fkn temerity to STAY with the group, not exchanging a word, drinking our wine, and returning to her room after it was unlocked to continue imbibing.

he has a stupid fucking beard. this is the stupid part.

restraint and blindness (Just got offed), Saturday, 1 November 2008 03:29 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to make this fast because I've got this stupid American holding some bottles for me.

rubisco (Abbott), Saturday, 1 November 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

In America, we call people with that behavior towards bottles "bums." Or "winos." Or "hobos."

rubisco (Abbott), Saturday, 1 November 2008 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

no, in America we look at our inner selves, if we are a pussy we just talk about what an asshole he is, if we are mentally enamored by anger we fuck this kid up... its not a step towards progress, but its a step towards fucking a guy up just because we feel pissed off. how often do you ever act on anger when you should. trust me, if you freaking flip out, the guy will be scared out of his gorge whether you really flipped out or not. Use the craziness to your advantage when you had the chance and FUCK THIS GUY OVER.

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Saturday, 1 November 2008 06:12 (seventeen years ago)

lj i'm not sure why you didn't just say "dude, you need to contribute"

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

or "mate" or "mensch" or whatever it is you say

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

This isn't stupid. This is just selfish. Not the same thing at all.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:48 (seventeen years ago)

though possibly also stupid insofar as he seems to have no idea how hated this behaviour makes him

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 November 2008 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

^^^this, altho the situation is probably the stupidest, most avoidable thing, also this guy's life-priorities are about as blockheaded as it gets imo

restraint and blindness (Just got offed), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:06 (seventeen years ago)

also there were about 6 other ppl there, all of whom knew this guy far better than I do, hence why I felt maybe someone else should be the one to approach him. one of them has now pledged to do so.

restraint and blindness (Just got offed), Saturday, 1 November 2008 12:07 (seventeen years ago)

they are stupid for not doing so already!

Cittaslow Mazza (blueski), Saturday, 1 November 2008 14:15 (seventeen years ago)
