Told myself that I can't watch tonight's ep until I write the cover letter (and update my resume) for a job I'm applying for.

Haven't even opened Word yet.

Tonight's was the funniest episode yet, from Hannibal talking to the dogs to Rachel Dratch counting gum balls on the floor to Abbi's roommate's boyfriend awkwardly kissing her. This show is so perfect.

this is a good year for weirdo comedies, enjoying this show way more than I expected

This last one WAS really funny but they lean on hacky jokes from time to time, like the running "noooo!" gag.

Hannibal Buress is killing it pretty damn consistently, though.

Thought ep 2 ("Pussy weed") was better than this one. Crushing on liana big time.

I was made a fan merely by the alternate pronunciation of "vagina" in ep 2

Just started watching this and man this shit is funny. The twenty seconds of her calling her old friend who's a housewife now (still with stretched earlobes) was just great.

that old woman who worked at the UPS-like facility had me dying.

Not as good as the last couple, but the subway sight gag was brilliant.

I've been debating bringing it up here, but I get a lot of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia from this.These totally idiotic narcissistic protagonists who are completely confident in their twisted world view while generally frustrating the rest of the world. Differences being of course that these are brooklyn hipster girls and not drunk philly heshers/faux-yuppies. Also, in Sunny, while the supporting characters do include a bunch of bizarre characters, many episodes focus on them coming up against "normal" people, while so far this show has more of a Louis grotesques vibe, like the shipping company lady.

I'd call them dorks, not hipsters.

i think at least abby's character is from philly originally (i think she calls her parents in one of the shorts in philly). also they're much more likable imo than sunny (or workaholics or girls characters)

Finally caught this show on Wednesday and laughed pretty hard. My wife insisted on binge-viewing the first 3 episodes on Amazon Instant.

The sandwich shop guy was great.

the subway pole gag made me laugh so hard

Watched the first couple of eps, which were funny, in a sort of understated way. It kind of views as a parody of "Girls."

I thought the opposite. Started out okay, just got worse.

I saw them on @midnight last week and immediately afterwards sent my dvr in search of Broad City. they are so chill and funny irl, am looking forward to seeing how dope this dope new show is :D

Abbi is funniest when she goes into her higher more shouty register. I loled when she shouted "not TO-DAY!" and kicked open the bathroom door.

Second episode was incredible.

Lincoln popping up out of the suitcase, all kinds of funny details. and it did really capture the vibe of tripping (and also why tripping in an urban setting is usually not a good idea lol)

Great episode! I loved how they were both speaking that shroom-inflected, weirdly over-descriptive language.

tbh I've always loved the credit sequence and often thought "man I wish there was more of that in this show" and now there was, and in a really smart way, so well done ladies

My friend maya was one if the animators! You can see her drawing from behind in the behind the scenes segment. Really cool.

Finally watched the new one, so good, I can't believe how cruel that ending was. Great use of animation & yeah they absolutely nailed tripping in the city & why smoking pot to boost yourself back up... maybe not a bad idea but tread lightly.

I'm enjoying how experimental and confident and free this season feels. the last episode was the first one that had Trump's name bleeped, and the next one airs on the anniversary of the election, an episode called "Florida."

it seems to happen like once every 6 months or so, and then I have to re-activate it, but this time it's not recognizing my DirectTV subscription at all so I'm just screwed I guess

Wow. for some reason I thought they got renewed for 3 more seasons in 2016. this is a bummer but at least they're on good terms with CC and will be able to write the season knowing that it'll be the last. I liked season 4 a lot, the episode with Abbi's mother was really moving & maybe my favorite of the whole series. Good to know they have lots of projects in development but you just never know. in a way it's good to know that at 5 seasons, it'll be concise and consistently great.

New season starting on British tv I think, I have it through Irish cable, this Friday with recap of Series 4 started last night.

Last night’s episode was solid. There was a gratuitous celebrity cameo but thankfully it was a fairly minor subplot. Less zany than some episodes with some good character development and some good jokes that landed.

all ended really nicely, great show imo

Finally started this new season. I am going to miss this.

I was reading a piece on jezebel? maybe and the writer never realized Broad City could be "broad" as in "a woman." I had never even thought that it might mean "broad" as in "vast".

Final tableau was beautiful. I haven't cared about TV characters like this since I can remember.

i didn't always love this show. found there to be some fallow periods and often, as so common in american comedy, their UCBisms could be wearying to me.

thought they ended it fantastically well. genuinely cared about the characters. they went out at the right time and in the right way. chapeau

The end was pretty great.

the show struggled with consistency with some pretty bad episodes but the highs were great and there were enough of them imo . I think they wrapped it up nicely .

no but it came up as an advertisement and the clip they showed was so unfunny i'm unlikely to ever watch it

I felt it was sorta like the Jenny Slate thing where it was a person who generally is funny but who hasn't fully figured out how standup sets work.

But the other thing that bothered me was all the gender/sexuality stuff, where she's pledging solidarity (ok, great!) but then also weirdly undermining that solidarity at the same time. And I don't mean that she's a hetero woman that's married to a hetero man. For example, she talks about discussing gender identity with one of her lesbian friends and talking about what they "feel" like ("70% female/30% male") and my reaction was - waitaminit, what is this weird gender normative division she's enthusiastically blathering about? What part of her psyche is she identifying as "male" (apparently the horny, aggressive side)? Isn't characterizing those things as male (and all the other stuff - being domestic, cutesy, etc. as female) part of the whole problem? Isn't the ideal goal to disassociate behaviors we all engage in, to varying degrees, from gender, and just see them as stuff people do (or don't do), regardless of gender identity?

you shoulda hung in for her big closing bit, which was about how old movies are bad because the women in them talk funny

there were funny lines/bits scattered throughout but yeah this was... not well thought out

i was rolling my eyes pretty hard at the stage with barbed wire at the lip, as if the edgy truths of this Modern-Day Philosopher are so dangerous that the audience will need protection

agreed that this was almost entirely unfunny. i've seen her do stand-up in shorter form with more success

the bit shakey mentioned is about as far as I got

this was spectacularly poor.

how muted the laughs are despite the fact that the audience is positively willing for the show to be good and to give the benefit of the doubt is quite jarring. very strong cult of personality vibes

lmao - I came to this thread because Ilana is touring through my neck of the woods and wanted to see if anyone knows what her show consists of, if it's any good, etc. Then I scrolled ever so slightly upthread and saw a unanimous consensus that her standup special is horrible. Anyone have a different opinion? New show more worth seeing? Something other than straight standup? I haven't watched the special and no plan to based on the above commentary but it doesn't surprise me tbh that her whole thing might leave a very different impression without Abby to balance, they have a very precise and possibly delicate dynamic
