oh yeah, i was going to say how heavy rythmic long lasting beats from trance music with escalating climbs and breaks fits with human nature and it just feels good listening to something so primal, then our brain is intrigued how something so technological can be something so primal, or am i overthinking it and you guys just think trance is a new type of music like acid rock circa 1985.

also, ive found J-Pop has the same sort of euphoric thing, its basically dance music so it has some of the same sounds, but the fact that you have NO IDEA at all what they are even trying to say makes it more trancey, you jsut get the sound of a happy persons voice without thinking about the incredibly lame and cliche things she could be saying, heh im jsut being lame and inadvertantly changing the topic repeatedly.
ill find some basic channel

(btw on The Wire site there is a brilliant article on Basic Channel in the archives. Essential reading)

I’ve been working on a mix of my favorite goa trance records from 1990ish to 1998ish and I’ve been frequently floored by the timelessness of many of these records. Techno pretension seriously maligned this stuff.

It was mentioned here on another thread but Dave Mothersole’s Roots of Goa Trance mix and accompanying words are an interesting place to start. I was familiar with him through his tech house interests, Kiss FM radio deejaying and writings for Muzik so this was pretty eye opening.

I loved both of these. Thank you! Unfortunately the referenced interview with Laurent returns a 404. I am going to dig around the Wayback Machine.

It’s really cool to revisit this stuff yeah - I have assembled a crate of about a thousand goa tracks ranging from the 1990 EBM era to the circa 1998-ish Pleiadians era, and I always have an absolute blast making mixes out of that material.
To me this era/scene is one of the highlights of electronic music history, and I never even went to Goa.
