JT has raised his standards by playing with dope ass musicians

Pity he still has the voice of a CASTRATED EUNUCH SUCKING HELIUM. Who is trying to be 'manly' to boot. DIE DIE DIE.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 06:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

ned, you've fallen into self-parody!

boxcubed (boxcubed), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 06:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

a lot of hatorade is being drunk up in here. a lot of it.

d k (d k), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 06:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think he's sexy. Now. And I never think boys are sexy. I think the way he sings is sexy in the way girls are usually sexy - 'I've only got one way to please you ...' - it's unusual for a boy.

Justin is a good singer and its good that he's trying to keep Michael Jackson alive in his voice and dancing, he's just like Usher another Michael Jackson wannabe, at least when Michael Jackson dies his legacy will live on between these two pop stars

Quikmove, Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

Does that mean that Usher will become white and Justins surgically modified to resemble a woman?

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 13:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

"surgically modified"? (I'm sorry, cheap shot.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 14:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Justin is a good singer..."

No, actually, he's not.

"....and its good that he's trying to keep Michael Jackson alive in his voice and dancing...."

No, sorry, that's not good either, actually. In fact, it's bad. Even if you *LIKE* Michael Jackson (which -- SURPRISE -- I don't), it's bad. We already have a Michael Jackson (unfortnately), why do we need another? We can't Justin find his own style?

"....he's just like Usher another Michael Jackson wannabe,"

I'll give you that one.

"at least when Michael Jackson dies his legacy will live on between these two pop stars."

By saying that, you are equating their talents -- asserting that Justin and/or Usher's work will fill the much-needed voided that Michael Jackson's untimely demise will create. As much as I loathe Michael Jackson, I can at least spot his (ever-diminishing) talent and recognize its originality, whereas Justin and Usher are merely appropriating, making their efforts that much more reprehensible.

Good lord, did I just defend Michael Jackson? Time for some coffee.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

That, incidentally, should be "WHY can't Justin find his own style." My spelling is going the way of all flesh.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 16:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

"Justin is a good singer..."

No, actually, he's not.

As if EVER that was relevant in Pop music.

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 17:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Usher is really only aping Michael Jackson on the dancing front, though; he's got a very different vocal style. ("U Got It Bad" may be the slow jam of the year.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 18:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

ned, you've fallen into self-parody!

How can I fall into something where I already was?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 18:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

am i the only one here who doesn't think he's a particularly bad singer at all?

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 19:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Probably not.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 November 2002 19:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

So, I just saw the vid for this again -- does the boy have some sort've endorsement deal with 7-11 or something? He's hanging out in the parking lot of a 7-11....WEARING A 7-11 T-SHIRT, for chrissakes!

Back in my day, only acne-speckled stoners in Iron Maiden t-shirts hung out in 7-11 parking lots. MUST THEY TAKE EVERYTHING FROM US? Damn kids....

I like how no one said boo about the fucking-horrible-mommy-make-it-stop badness of the Aaron Carter single.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:50 (twenty years ago) link

This thread is the nadir of human civilisation.

Justin is with McDonalds now. Hate him and you are fighting the golden arches. There can be no victory.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago) link

I spewed out all that above vitriol before I was seduced by the slithering groove of "Cry Me A River" alas.

I do still hate "Like I Love You", though.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:49 (twenty years ago) link

This thread is great, but I still love the tune.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:54 (twenty years ago) link

I don't really hate it either, I just felt a need to invoke the Mcdonalds jingle.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:57 (twenty years ago) link

It was kinda nice to hear a huge pop song with acoustic drums on it.

Lovely thread, thought it referred to the NEW JT track, which is really awful and jerky. 'LILY' is class though. Fortunately I never pledged allegiance.

Enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 10:03 (twenty years ago) link

This song, video, performance inspired me to start learning to be a better dancer. Everyone at uni would look for me to dance when this track came on. I watched the video over and over. I was one with Justin's (narrowly) best song, and I ended up loving Off The Wall and Thriller even more than I thought possible.

Still, Usher has to kick his ass. JT took so much from him, right down to the older woman.

This thread is madshit genius.

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 20:10 (twenty years ago) link

Any negative observ.s on the McDonald's Song are otm, though the girl in the video is buff.

Dan was so wrong on this thread. "Like I Love You" is a classic song.

The Beatles/Rolling Stones/Bob Dylan/Led Zepplin/Prince/Aretha Franklin/Elvis Presley/Beach Boys/[canonical artist that has reached "classic" status who still has vocal, dismissive critics' to thread.
