it's like a Shark-Cage but for "Your Junk" AKA Your Penis & Balls (stevie), Thursday, 22 October 2009 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

I for one welcome Jordan's prior HitlerYouthisms as they got me into this. Hoping the proper album drops in time for me to convince everyone to make it "album of the week" on our "funk" episode of DAA.

Tim F, Thursday, 22 October 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Just grabbed the album now. As usual, I am two to three months behind ILM on everything. Perpetually sleeping. Missed seeing him in Montreal back in September at a tiny loft/club. Will smack myself in the head repeatedly for the next day or two.

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:03 (sixteen years ago)

Is it still possible to track down those original EPs, though? It appears as though the tracks have been significantly shortened on the full-length album. Or am I misreading this information?

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

really? it's being released as a 2CD and a 5LP...

k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 02:19 (sixteen years ago)

as far as i know, the "album" is just the 5 EPs...

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)

http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=232433

Look at the track lengths. All I know is that my version of the title track is 2 minutes long and on the original EP it is apparently 5. This is not the only instance of this. Also, there are at least two tracks not on the full-length? Can't figure out which ones.

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:21 (sixteen years ago)

But confused bitching about album/EP inconsistency aside, this is really something else.

(Oh, Tunnels is one of the missing trax)

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

this is weird... kinda interested to hear the songs in that order, seems almost like a totally different album

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:25 (sixteen years ago)

yeah. anyway. is it worth it tracking down the EPs as well? or should 24 tracks of LP fulfill all my dam-funk needs?

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:28 (sixteen years ago)

once i get the fifth EP i think i'm gonna make a playlist with the songs in that order

also i think it goes without saying that these are the album covers of the year

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:29 (sixteen years ago)

you should be aight with that album, if you really want the missing EP tracks send me a fb message and i'll send em back to you

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:29 (sixteen years ago)

xxp i dunno, i've gotten used to (and fallen in love w/) the songs in the order they are on the EP...plus apparently they'll be the actual full songs?

k3vin k., Friday, 23 October 2009 02:30 (sixteen years ago)

kind of curious why he'd edit down some of these...longer versions of tracks in funk are always better, as a general rule.

Binkie & The-Dream: One is a Terius, the other's insAY!ne (Alex in Montreal), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:30 (sixteen years ago)

cuz there are only so many minutes of music that can be on a cd?

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:31 (sixteen years ago)

the track lengths don't look to be that big of a deal tbh - "search 4 funk's future" & "LAtrifying" seem to have been cut down a few minutes but every other track just has a few seconds on at the end and i'm sure that's because he had to mix all the songs into each other differently than on the EP & because of time constraints

everybody loves am0n (J0rdan S.), Friday, 23 October 2009 02:35 (sixteen years ago)

i don't listen to much instrumental stones throw type ish but dam-funk is like the first dude where i really feel emotion, or at least identify with the emotion - the long, winding, whiny synth lines are so evocative imo

soiceybot (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 7 November 2009 06:19 (sixteen years ago)

vast and warm funk. good stuff.

This part of the sentence is even dumber. (lukas), Saturday, 7 November 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)

Every time I see the album title I think it's some weird faux-germanic spelling of "Touchdown"

I dig him for like one track at a time and don't mind his shit coming up on shuffle, but way too samey to listen to for longer than that.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 16 February 2010 08:08 (sixteen years ago)

i should probably try listening to the rest of this guy's output but on the one ep i only like one track particularly, although i LOVE that track (hood pass intact).

apparently dam has a new song (9 mins!) called "don't let the smile fool u" that passion of the weiss posted but the link is dead now & i didn't see anyone else posting it, so he might've let an exclusive slip by accident or something

J0rdan S., Thursday, 18 February 2010 05:42 (sixteen years ago)

seems odd to day this about anybody, but he sings much better live than on record

he's also produced a track on fatima's new ep (fatima = the girl of shafiq husayn's "lil girl" last year) - it's really gorgeous

LA needs one more blunted 80s revivalist besides funk + nite jewel and i can start pitching a trend story
