OUT ON THE ENDLESS, ENDLESS...

So I saw the Who last night. It was pretty good. They did this great song I hadn't known of before called "Real Good Lookin' Boy". I think it's supposed to be about Elvis.

I also tried listening to their latest album again just to be sure...and yes I still love it. Much more than their performance last night.

I mean just think how many years those guys have been performing all those songs in front of all those people, night after night after night. You have to respect them for that alone. I can't believe that "My Generation" is 40 years old.

name another band/artist that been around as long that can open a show with their first single ("i can't explain") and close it with the last song on their last album ("tea and theatre"). i mean, convincingly.

Heheh! You know it man! I was so pleased to hear I Can't Explain, actually - it's not one of those songs by them I ever think about but I like it, in fact I couldn't get it out of my head the day after the show.

I thought their visuals on the giant screen behind them were fantastic, too. Best visuals I've ever seen at a concert. Pictures of people in the 60's...a few 70's punks...old pictures of the band...and just plain animated sort of art stuff.

I remember when I first got into Who's Next. I was swinging on children's swings in the dark next to my apartment complex. There was no one around at all, and I had it playing in my headphones. Suddenly these songs that I used to hear on classic radio all the time in my childhood made sense in a way they never had before.

I thank goodness this thread has the word "umpteen" in it, otherwise it would be unsearchable.

I can't seem to get over the Who of late. The two songs "Old Red Wine" and "Real Good Looking Boy" have obsessed me, and the Endless Wire album only comes in a close second. People write that album off, but what is so wrong with "We Got A Hit" or the title track?

I can only conclude that there are some people in this world who are just mad fans of Pete Townshend's songwriting and other people who just aren't.

I mean what did you guys expect out of them anyway, hiphop? I admit the album isn't perfect, there are a few songs where I nearly fall asleep, but that's why it's so great when the next brilliant song comes along after these and wakes me up to such beautiful and compelling music.
