anybody switched positions on this battle in the last ten years? I'm a big Nas fan, probably one of my favorite rappers, but I still can't stan for him on Ether. it has one of the worst choruses of any dis track ever, and at times he's equivalent to the "self-ohh"ing dude on that one Chappelle's show episode.

i am continuing my policy of having the correct opinion in this matter.

you know, i was thinking about this the other day cuz my brother put in 'the blueprint' on a road trip & seriously anyone that thinks "ether" is the answer here is a fucking idiot

i dunno if this is decided or whatever but it is "takeover" by just so incredibly much and it is utterly perplexing to me why rap writers continue to write that so-and-so "ethered" such-and-such instead of "took over".

nas gets credit for coining a genuinely cool phrase but the songs themselves/the disses therein aren't even close

"Takeover" has like 2 dozen genuinely cool phrases.

I 'get' this but if you're gonna do a diss song you better come hard on the track. jay's sleepwalking delivery kills the song imo - if you're so cool and don't-give-a-shit about it, then why even lower yourself in the first place to record a diss track?

I guess you can choose takeover if you like reading rap song lyrics on the web instead of listening to them. \(O_o)/

also it's impossible to listen to the takeover nowadays without imagining jay going LOOOOOOOOVE in the background

the chorus of Takeover is fun as hell dayo. and the intermittent vocals coming in that sing "LAMMMMMMMMMMME". the beat is simple enough that it doesn't get in the way of the lyrics, and it's bouncy and upbeat. The beat for Ether is overtly cinematic, and while not a bad beat, it's way too 'serious' sounding, almost a downer.

Also, Ether doesn't have anything anywhere near as awesome as "You was a ballerina, I got the pictures I seen ya", but everybody ignores that when debating Ether because it was a Prodigy diss.

"KRS already made an album called Blueprint" = so what, at least 11 other artists made an album called "I Am".

calling Jay-Z ugly = he knows he's ugly.

"Well life is harsh, hug me, don't reject me, or make records that disrespect me, blatant or indirectly" = waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

also the repeated "fuck Jay-Z" crap is too blatant, Jay-Z only mentions Nas by name once in his, and mockingly calls him "God" at one point, which is awesome. Love that he also names the actual publishing company he paid for the sample, in essence saying "take it up w/ them dawg"!

also Nas only really gets one verse in the Jay-Z song...Nas spent his entire song trying to attack Jay-Z and failed.
