well it's my local paper and main outlet and Matos is one of the non-local freelancers (although he's written for it much longer). Jess used to be our music editor!
― some dude, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:16 (fourteen years ago) link
the-dream and q&k ended up being my 3 and 4 (can't remember which order i went with) after electrik red and taylor swift
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:17 (fourteen years ago) link
i had Electrik Red and Quik trading places for #1 and #2 on my list for a few months before ER won out with a much higher iTunes play count

― k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link
i think my paper has this as #1 hip-hop album but then again i'm the only one there who writes about hip hop so
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 19:09 (fourteen years ago) link
Yes, this is one of those rare pop records--and even rarer indie-pop records--where the "girl" mentioned in the lyrics could as easily be a daughter as a girlfriend.
lol for most pop records this would be...a problem
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 9 December 2009 19:14 (fourteen years ago) link
Top five for me. I dunno why I took so long to come around. "The Appeal" floors me.

plz no more comparisons to 'arty' uk music just bcuz he slows down the tempo, tho

i like this better than a lot of shit on blaqkout but then again i didn't dig that as much as the rest of you guys
― funky house septics, let me drain you of this (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 00:49 (fourteen years ago) link
blaqkout was much more of a break w/ the sound of classic quik, this sounds like a fresh but not altogether unique variation on the kind of stuff hes been doing since the late 90s
― n00b jack city (deej), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 01:10 (fourteen years ago) link
i mean that in a broad sense, not in the premier-style bangers inc. sense
― n00b jack city (deej), Wednesday, 17 March 2010 01:11 (fourteen years ago) link
still great tho
that's prob why i like it better

oh c'mon -- "i'm burnt" had one quik verse & it was like 4/10 -- the fuck outta here
― shabba canks (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 21 March 2010 00:45 (fourteen years ago) link
er, one kurupt verse obv
It's not an all-time classic or anything but solid 7/10. I've gotten some burn from it (no pun). Then again I'm a total sucker for big drum vs small production nu-west shit. And Problem holds his own just fine. Love the hook tho.
