I recently found her Revival demos. Really nice.

Jacob Sanders, Thursday, 17 December 2009 15:16 (fourteen years ago) link

hey rozanna we both have procissão in our top tracks little player thing, but yours is mellower.

wow I never noticed that! the version that I have in my collection is the same as yours except it hasn't been tagged properly (doesn't have the squiggly thing over the letter 'a') so I guess last.fm read that as the mellower version. liking it. :)

Roz, Thursday, 17 December 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Your musical compatibility with Abandoned_Brain is VERY HIGH OLD

I thought you were taking the piss, then I looked at your lists, fellow post-punk obsessive!

Two of you are now my last.fm friends, I'm so excited! I shall look at your libraries for inspiration. Do many of you find that actually leads to new favorites?

Never

I sometimes take a look through close neighbours with v. high or super compatibility and scroll down their charts until I find something I haven't heard. A bit hit and miss but sometimes something comes up that's worth a listen.

Yeah what Onimo said e.g. in my ignorance I'd always assumed that Bohren & der Club of Gore were some dodgy German goth thing like Philip Boa or whatevs until I saw them high in someone's charts. Checked them out and now it's totally <3.

Actually I'm assuming there that Philip Boa is some dodgy German goth thing as well.

that top artists chart really is depressing

that top artists chart really is depressing

Why does it depress you? Fair enough you don't like xx or Lady Gaga or w/e but you know you're not going to get a disparate group of something 700 people connected by a message board about Everything listening to the top 350 metal albums of 2009 all week.

Who was that Christmas-jumpered man? (onimo), Thursday, 24 December 2009 10:20 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah like all i listen to is metal

Pfunkboy : The Dronelord vs The Girly Metal Daleks (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 24 December 2009 15:10 (fourteen years ago) link

I didn't say that.

I'm saying you shouldn't expect to see more obscure/esoteric stuff at the top of a chart of 700 people with very little in common. I still don't see why it depresses you, you still get to hear what you like, as does everyone else.

I understand you have a natural revulsion to whatever the latest "hipster" band is on ILM but if a whole bunch of ILMers like The xx enough to keep listening then surely that's fair enough, whether you like them or not.

Who was that Christmas-jumpered man? (onimo), Thursday, 24 December 2009 17:58 (fourteen years ago) link

im not talking about just one band.

Pfunkboy : The Dronelord vs The Girly Metal Daleks (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 24 December 2009 18:25 (fourteen years ago) link

neither am I, I just used them as an example

ps I still haven't listened to all the metal I downloaded after last year's poll :/

Who was that Christmas-jumpered man? (onimo), Thursday, 24 December 2009 20:16 (fourteen years ago) link

It's more that the ilx charts never change. It's the same top 20 every bloody week.

Pfunkboy : The Dronelord vs The Girly Metal Daleks (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 24 December 2009 20:21 (fourteen years ago) link

but sometimes New Order move up or down a place :)

Who was that Christmas-jumpered man? (onimo), Thursday, 24 December 2009 20:38 (fourteen years ago) link

Of the top 25, I only own stuff from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Radiohead and Kate Bush, and they haven't been getting a ton of airplay in the McBoing-Boing household lemme tell ya. I've been in a distinct mood for The Church lately.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 24 December 2009 21:29 (fourteen years ago) link

I know the charts are "depressing" but then I look at them and realize that they are a reflection of commonality, like things lots of people have in their music player, and I would guess the majority of those people listen to music at work, when they just leave the player on "shuffle". The nice thing about last.fm is browsing people and groups and seeing the diversity in individual choices.

US EEL (u s steel), Friday, 25 December 2009 17:51 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i've said it before, but 60 out of 700 members playing maybe one kate bush song a week hardly constitutes a hivemind anyway. i'd consider that to be a pretty damn good sign of variety actually!

My 12 month albums chart.

I listen to Double Nickels On The Dime about 5 times but due to 40+ tracks on the album it's my most played album. lol

haha i appear to have it as both "love vs money" and "love vs. money" in my library - listened to the leak for a while and then imported the cd after that, they must have been tagged differently
