haha well it's like usually when a random artist becomes big and all established the acclimatisations and growing pains of getting to know the dude inevitably get lost in the sands of time, or get subsumed into lovable foibles or whatever; this wedding pic just suddenly brought into sharp focus again how absurd terius was and probably still is, even though we've all got used to him now and take for granted that he's an r&b superauteur, and reminded me of what it was like first trying to digest his stuff.

i suppose a greater point is that this mildly pathetic side of him, the appreciation of which is still a crucial part of enjoying his music imo, often gets passed over entirely with the slavish "let's repoll this til terius wins" mentality you see round here. but i'm just grinding man, yall never mind me.

re: animalistic - it's weird to hear a terius album that cleaves so heavily to the jerky, flat trends of the time - production-wise there's little that's really recognisable as the-dream we know and love now, it's mostly staccato beats and handclaps and electro riffs, very little lushness or melodic opulence. it sort of reminds me that terius' first big break was "me against the music". he also contributes a couple of kinda-bad guest raps.

all in all it's still pretty good, this song stood out particularly on one listen -

'georgia' is fantastic you loon!! that's what i expected you to come back and be all breathless about. yeah the rest of it wasn't very striking at the time, kinda trashy in actual fact - but also i'm guessing the kind of trashy that will be a useful point of comparison for when milian's album drops, if it ever does.

^ first noticeable instance of terius that i can recall btw, still great. i'm looking at wiki and seeing he did 'breathe (let it go)' and 'complicated' on that 05 album too - those were really good songs.

I was about to say that it wasn't really a competition based on my still intense love for 'rockin' that shit' but Ne-Yo appears to be more consistent and The Dream is deeply, deeply annoying as a person IMO. Plus, who else in the r&b world rocks a hat and lipgloss as well as Ne-Yo? No one that's who.
