called something like Hoppy Polar by Ziggy Ross (ksh), Sunday, 7 March 2010 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

Ah, the irony of complaining about the lack of an RSS feed on RSS-less ILM...

glenn mcdonald, Sunday, 7 March 2010 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

i don't really mind that ILX doesn't have RSS, but i definitely prefer feeds for blogs. :-)

Oh, and that was Shyy, not Skyy, on the fake Alcest leak. My apologies to disco.

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 8 March 2010 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

Here's a link to my interview with Marwan Riyadh of Acrassicauda.

Has anyone heard the full Triptykon album yet? The myspace tracks sound great. I've grown to love Monotheist and these seem a logical progression from that record. Thoughts?

EZ Snappin, Monday, 8 March 2010 21:36 (sixteen years ago)

Haven't heard any of it yet actually, off to check those MySpace tracks. If it does sound like Monotheist, I will be thrilled!

you gone float up with it (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 8 March 2010 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

Someone posted that they had the complete Triptykon album and Unleashed's new one, which I'm also curious about. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of the Triptykon album -- the myspace tracks sound promising and the cover art looks really great as well.

witch ghetto defendant, Monday, 8 March 2010 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

"OK, so that Alcest album that converted me to liking Alcest was, in fact, a fake leak!"
― glenn mcdonald, Sunday, March 7, 2010 7:48 PM

Interesting. I think I have the fake leak as well, but it wasn't working its magic on me anyway. I noticed the track lengths were different from what's listed on Metallum and was thinking I might not have the right one.

I'm really jealous of all those who have heard the new Cathedral.
They do have one track streaming on their myspace now for anybody who hasn't yet gotten a taste:

witch ghetto defendant, Monday, 8 March 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

I have the Tryptikon and Unleashed albums - and the new Nachtmystium, too. The Tryptikon is very Monotheist-ic, and the Unleashed album is an Unleashed album. I haven't listened to the Nachtmystium disc all the way through yet.

Im jealous of Phil

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 March 2010 22:15 (sixteen years ago)

The Tryptikon is very Monotheist-ic,

Sold. All I needed to hear.

you gone float up with it (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 8 March 2010 22:26 (sixteen years ago)

Nachtmystium's the best thing I've heard in 2010 so far.

A. Begrand, Monday, 8 March 2010 22:29 (sixteen years ago)

What I said about it on Twitter on Friday:

The vocals are much too comprehensible on this new Nachtmystium disc. If you're gonna enunciate so clearly, dude, write better lyrics.

neither good nor bad, just a kid like you (unperson), Monday, 8 March 2010 22:33 (sixteen years ago)

The intro track is actually kind of funny. But this album kills, it's like they were listening to a lot of Killing Joke prior to writing.

A. Begrand, Monday, 8 March 2010 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

Seeing Orphaned Land tnite!

Mordy, Monday, 8 March 2010 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

I'm right with ya. I'll pre-order it tomorrow at my local store - it's out in two weeks!

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

i'm not sure if it fits in here, but the s/t daughters album is crazy.

borntohula, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 03:53 (sixteen years ago)

That Daughters album is great, indeed. They keep getting better.

Saw the retro thrash bacchanal of Megadeth, Testament, and Exodus tonight, and it was great. 95% of the tunes came from before 1991, Megadeth doing Rust in Peace of course, Testament doing The Legacy (+ "Into the Pit"), and Exodus playing a fabulous set of 85-89 material. So much fun was had (the RIP deep cuts were the clear highlights, and it was great to see Ellefson back), it was like 1990 all over again, but with a little more grey hair in the crowd.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 05:32 (sixteen years ago)

Cathedral is the best metal album I've heard this year so far. Although the sample of the baby crying is quite upsetting.

Doran, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 08:31 (sixteen years ago)

Finally getting to the Tryptikon album...is it better than Monotheist? I don't think so. But like Phil said, it's definitely cut from the same cloth, and what's not to like about that? I just love Fischer's vocals these days, he sounds infinitely more evil than he did in the early '80s.

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 09:52 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know about "more evil" but he sounds so good these days you kind of wonder what the hell he was trying to do between ITP and Monotheist.

Chokoreeto Kurosawa (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 10:04 (sixteen years ago)

In the Triptykon interview in Decibel, Tom apparently just overlooks Apollyon Sun entirely?

Chokoreeto Kurosawa (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 10:26 (sixteen years ago)

Orphaned Land concert did not disappoint!

Mordy, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

I keep waking up each morning this week and realizing that I'm going to see Voivod this Saturday.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

You're so lucky. Voivod inexplicably skipped my province again. Still have never seen them in 26 years!

A. Begrand, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

Um, yeah, really bummed about being unemployed and broke this week.

Friday night @ Bottom Lounge: Kreator, Voivod, Nachtmystium, Evile
Sunday night @ Bottom Lounge: Orphaned Land, Indian, A Storm of Light

Not that either are all that expensive, just so not in the cards for me right now.

Nachtmystium's the best thing I've heard in 2010 so far.
new LP? in its entirety? where?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Tuesday, 9 March 2010 23:47 (sixteen years ago)

Think its just the press promo, I don't believe its floating around out there just yet.

"You're so lucky. Voivod inexplicably skipped my province again. Still have never seen them in 26 years!"

It's a rare and wonderful thing. This will be my 4th time. Outer Limits tour, Phobos, Voivod, and now Infini.

I badly wanted to see Nothingface tour but it was at a 21+ club and no fake id would have ever worked for me. When I was 16 I looked 11.

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 10 March 2010 12:33 (sixteen years ago)

I've never seen 'em either, but I've never tried. Might catch 'em in a week, though, as they're on the bill with Motörhead at SXSW.

I interviewed Dark Tranquillity frontman Mikael Stanne; we did a track-by-track rundown of the new album. Here 'tis. http://bit.ly/cC1cXC

Holy crap, the new Yakuza album is something else. I loved Samsara and was quite indifferent to Transmutations...Of Seismic Consequence is a huge return to form.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 11 March 2010 08:12 (sixteen years ago)

Interviewed Anders Johansson, drummer for Hammerfall, in this week's Cleveland Scene.

Also wrote a thing about Ludicra on MSN; the new album is really impressive.

I saw you guys were talking about Yakuza ... the Chicago Reader profiled Bloodiest, another band with the singer from Yakuza, this week: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/bloodiest-chicago-tony-lazzara-bruce-lamont/Content?oid=1515439

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 March 2010 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

they have one song here, sounds pretty awesome: http://www.myspace.com/brucelamont (I don't know anything about Yakuza btw)

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 March 2010 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

Thanks for that...that one track really cool.

Lamont also sings on the last track of the Nachtmystium album.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 11 March 2010 20:23 (sixteen years ago)

Not that either are all that expensive, just so not in the cards for me right now.

Jon, if you're getting promos, can't you get on the guestlist? Just say you'll toss off a review on a blog.

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 11 March 2010 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

Has anyone else noticed Soulfly's increasing similarities to Dethklok?

smacked down over Twitter (J3ff T.), Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:40 (sixteen years ago)

The police, who were expecting crowd trouble, had deployed 1,500 officers, four tanks and several police trucks to manage the event.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

Man, South American metal fans are intense.

A. Begrand, Thursday, 11 March 2010 21:57 (sixteen years ago)

Unexpected metal score today!!! \m/

Was downtown for a (failed) networking event and saw that F.Y.E. (which I honestly didn't even know still existed in Chicago) was having a sale of $9.99 for all CDs. Figured it would be crap, but had some time to kill and ended up walking out with Through Silver in Blood for $10. I decided awhile back to not download this even though I've been aching to hear it since about, oh, 2004. Wanted to hold out for hearing my own copy. Finally get to indulge now!

Man, that Colombian Metallica riot was one of the wimpiest riots I've ever seen.

Bill Magill, Thursday, 11 March 2010 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

Thanks for the Ludicra plug Phil! Glad you finally got into them. They really are the best USBM. :)

Nate Carson, Thursday, 11 March 2010 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

I'm glad to see they are doing two shows in SF this spring, especially since I can't make the Pentagram one. :)

richie aprile (rockapads), Thursday, 11 March 2010 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

Ludicra's evolution is really starting to parallel that of Enslaved, you can hear a lot of similarities between The Tenant and Vetebrae. Cobbett really seals the deal in my opinion, he throws in some flamboyant Slough Feg/Hammers-style gallops and solos that he never really did on a Ludicra record before.
