ATP NY 09: All Tomorrow's Parties New York

Saw Waits live in Dallas roughly a year ago and dude was fucking unreal. Better than most anything I've seen at ATP NY the past two years (and I've enjoyed the great majority of those lineups)...

Tom is better than anything i've ever seen live ever. Ever.

I guess the problem with having someone like Waits involved is it would sell out in about two seconds flat and many of his fans might not necessarily stick around for the other bands.

Which is why Tom is probably a good final announcement

ATP celebrate 10 years with a birthday party on Saturday 4th September hosting a day of past ATP curators, ATP Recordings artists and friends. To complete the line-up for this day our new additions are headed up by HALLOGALLO, a very special new project headed by Michael Rother and featuring Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs) and Ben Curtis (Secret Machines, School of Seven Bells). Hallogallo will perform the music of Rother's 1970s Krautrock legends Neu! - their recent debut show in Barcelona was rapturously received. Also confirmed are cult heros SHELLAC who appear as ATP's House Band, FURSAXA, SIAN ALICE GROUP and TEXT OF LIGHT (featuring Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo). Steve Albini of Shellac is also confirmed to host his Card Games Room over the weekend. Here's that day's full line-up...

Not bad. Saturday looks good (if a bit like, well, an ATP all-star line-up) and Sunday's admittedly a bit lacking. Still wish I could attend this year... obviously there will be good times to be had here.

Sorta-Neu! was AMAZING at their first show in Barcelona and that was just Michael/Steve/Aaron so looking forward to seeing them after a few more shows and with a fourth member.

Oh totally (though I haven't heard White Hills), it's just that aside from the Sunn/Boris collabo, it doesn't really seem like Sunday has much in the way of headliners. Also agree the Neu! thing looks AMAZING.

Personally I'd have a 20 minute slot at 12:30pm on Friday. Small crowd, low expectations, simply opening the fest. And I would recap my all-time best (worst?) ILX zings, joeks, funnehs, and lolz. With Google image-bombs projecting behind me.

Could we have the sorta-Neu! group set up in that room Oneida played in last year, just constantly alternating between "Hallogallo" and "Für Immer" for eight hours or so?

God that Oneida room was so fucking cool.

So this is like 6 weeks away. Any other ilxors are confirmed to go?

I will be there, but I rarely post on ILM, so I'm sure this wasn't directed at me. Although I will happily buy you a beer for keeping me entertained on Twitter for the past year or so if I see you there, Whiney. I know quite a few people who are still waiting for that "+ more to be confirmed!" part on the Jarmusch day to be filled before deciding on whether to go. I hope ATP have something killer up their sleeves.

i mean, lets be real here. ilxor has made the trip from Texas and I know like tons of people on this site who live RIGHT HERE who claim to "Love Music" who have never gone to ATP. What gives?

To be honest (and I think I've mentioned this somewhere in the thread above) the only reason I'm not booked for a third year of ATP NY is that married + kiddo + saving for house + etc. = can no longer spend $$ on cross-country music fests.

what kind of priorities are those

I mean, every day of this fest has been amazing. Where else can you watch a Boredoms 9-drum freakout, then walk 5 minutes down the hall and watch Oneida jam endlessly for 50 people in a small, living room-esque space, then decide, oh, I guess it's time to watch Caribou playing with Marshall Allen, Kieran Hebden, etc., followed by Boris performing Feedbacker in full, a bit more Oneida as a palate-cleanser, then drop in to see No Age playing Husker Du covers with Bob Mould himself on vox, and then oh why not go see the Flaming Lips and their exploding confetti balloons at the end of the day?

Which is why I'm like perplexed as to why the 100-or-so NYC/NJ posters on this music nerd site can't be assed to go...

Like where's forks? nabisco? ian? unperson? surfboard dudes?

Sorry, but these are some pretty *YAWN* additions to Jarmusch's final lineup. As much as I like GZA on record, he's put on the absolute worst live show I've seen all year. And Kurt Vile and Kool Herc should be alright, but...

Also, weren't there like seven Friday performers last year? And this year there's four?
