Ever since first hearing the "murder/tractor" single and hearing the first Ep on Glitterhouse I was hooked. Nothing in rock has ever sounded so dark and all out nihilistic and there are few bands that can tread water near Magnet (early mudhoney, stooges, loop). Stoner rock indeed. The scary stoners that you were always afraid of in jr high school...yeah these were the magnet kids and they all know a Lizard Johnny-you better run! "(screaming?) out on the street, I witnessed the birth of a freak...don't waste the drool Johnny!)

Dave Wyndorf will be ok...shit he's mostly clean...that's better than most of us!

I was wondering if there was a thread about this the other day. I practically grew up around the Monster Magnet guys, I was living a block away from them when they first signed to A&M. Dave was a smart, down-to-earth, and personable dude. He loved to mock his own cock-rock persona, and constantly encouraged my own meager musical endeavors.

On one hand, I hope he's ok; on the other, I know the guy's a rock n roll vampire, you just can't kill him. Back in his Shrapnel days he was hospitalized for mouthing off to some Boston bouncers; Monster Magnet was snubbed for years (too smart for metal, too dumb for alternative) before "Space Lord" took off. He just keeps on truckin' through the shit and the flowers.

The recent re-release of Spine of God seems to have slipped by unnoticed? High-ly recommended. The demo version of Ozium on it is great. Don't know why they never released the first two demo tapes on CD. They're widely bootlegged in crappy versions and some of the demo versions majorly stomp their studio counterparts (like "Ozium" and "Tab").
