for a wispy singer, he could've picked a worse cover choice than an aaliyah song

i dont get the point

i don't think there's supposed to be much of a point to it

yeah this, i'm a stan but i love tracking down dream demos of songs he wrote for other artists, he's got a bunch of those floating around and theyre cool

i will assume you are not intending to imply what you seem to be implying there

but yeah, turns out dude is a fairly good interpreter, too

it seems that you're implying that the-dream wrote "one in a million" for aaliyah

how would we rank terius' singles as lead artist, then?

was going to put this on al's poll thread but thought he might not appreciate yet more terius talk there, and there aren't really enough to merit a thread of their own. thought it might be interesting though as terius' singles don't tend to be the most talked-about of his songs, and are def his most "generic"...anyway i go:

my love
shawty is da shit
sweat it out
i luv your girl
rockin' that shit
let me see the booty
walkin' on the moon
make-up bag
love king
falsetto

i also suspected all of our lists would be completely different

well, so far "sweat it out" has a consensus bronze medal

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

makes a kind of sense -- it's obviously great but chartwise a very minor hit that didn't have a video so noone feels quite right about putting it in first or second place

deej otm (some dude), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:01 (thirteen years ago) link

lex i love you but saying "my love" is the best terius single is just

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:53 (thirteen years ago) link

anyway i'll rank these as singles and not necessarily as songs or parts of albums

"shawty is da shit!" > "rockin that shit" > "sweat it out" > "falsetto" >>> "love king" > "i luv your girl" = "my love" = "walkin on the moon" >> "make up bag"

wakafledia (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:57 (thirteen years ago) link

altho i feel reasonably comfortable saying "shawty is da shit!" is his my favorite song of his

wakafledia (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't think i'd ever have guessed that "my love" would become my fav terius single at the time, but it actually inspired this bump - it's probably the dream song-in-isolation i drift back to most regularly, i kind of feel i know every nook and cranny of it by heart

two weeks pass...

massively back into 'love king'. haven't listened to it much since it was released but last few weeks i'm just obsessed again. sex intelligence -> abyss is seriously the best shit he's ever done. i do still + always have a fondness for love/hate era terius where it was relatively simple...........obsessed with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYqeqt2sxek

i play love/hate to ppl who are massively into love king and they don't get it at all. like that kinda massively produced terius opera is amazing but how can you not like the gorgeous simple love songs? don't get it

yeah it's funny this woman i work with was playing love king at work one day so i burned her his first two and electrik red's - she was already familiar with the singles but didn't really dig either of the first two albums, i didn't get it at all.

i still consider love king to be pretty clearly his weakest album but i enjoyed it pretty well in the car on the way back to school today - title track has grown on me a lot since way back when it leaked - i think it's a great opener now. parts of the album still drag for me, unfortunately - apart from a few great moments i can't get into the first "sex intelligent", "nikki pt. 2" is a waste of a great first 60 seconds, "panties to the side" is just....(although i think i said once that i do love the "...call me" -> *"turnt out" starts*, likely just because i'm so glad it's over), and "february love" is still pretty lifeless for me.

"fila", "yamaha", and "turnt out" are obv among his best, tho

overtheseas aeroplanes I have flown (k3vin k.), Monday, 29 November 2010 00:59 (thirteen years ago) link

i dunno i was def of the "it's his weakest album" school of thought but now i'm not sure. it's def my album of the year and i think its pretty fucking solid until 'panties' which is just ..... * euggggh *
