i wonder if robin thicke had anything to do with this -- if not it sounds a whole hell of a lot like him

incredible length (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 June 2010 08:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Didn't think of that when I heard it, but yeah, that would make total sense.

Normally I would post this in my k-pop thread where nobody looks at it, but considering his album recently reached #1 on the Canadian itunes R&B chart and #3 on the US equivalent maybe it could appeal to others. And it IS lovely, almost impossibly restrained and patient rnb croonery.

New FuthaMuckas, y'all. I honestly don't know if I love this to death or hate it and want to HULK SMASH it to pieces. "The Bitch"

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 06:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Have decided I love it to death. That might just be middle-of-the-night lack-of-sleep euphoria talking, though.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:02 (thirteen years ago) link

who the hell are these clowns

hoos gossage (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:24 (thirteen years ago) link

kinda beats the hook into you but for real those are some of the worst verses i've ever heard

hoos gossage (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I just noticed them upthread (Rolling R&B Thread 2010), went to youtube, and saw they had a newer single. I'm sort of fascinated by how offensively ridiculous they are, and at the same time rocking out to the hook. Really does remind me of shit that was around during the time they're obviously trying to recreate.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:29 (thirteen years ago) link

i know who they are -- it was more of a rhetorical -- on the other hand, i really do wonder if they're signed/to which label etc etc or what

"bottoms up" is kind of super generic even for trey songz but i could see it growing on me

that r. kelly is kind of a disaster -- bangladesh is a great producer obv but lately he's kind of got too clever for his own good

and demi has released two really great pop-rock albums in the past two years (both way better than the two paramore albums i've heard). i don't see why her releasing an R&B album is irrelevant to this thread.

I have an iTunes playlist called "That Feeling" (Tape Store), Monday, 26 July 2010 13:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i love her albums too but tbh i have a hard time imagining her voice/delivery working in an R&B context, could be like that Ashlee/Timbaland album or something. so i mean, it might work, but until it does I'm not getting my hopes up.
