personal & the pizzas

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Tuesday, 15 June 2010 19:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I quite like the name Archers of Loaf.

There's a local band called Fanny Burger Face. This is so resolutely terrible that it may border on genius.

(Also, I believe it does refer to the British English meaning of 'fanny' rather than the personal name or the American English version.)

I kind of like the name Municipal Waste, but find it hard to intonate correctly in everyday speech, especially with a British accent. Mun-I-cipal Waste, MUN-i-CIP-al Waste... hmmm...

village idiot (dog latin), Wednesday, 16 June 2010 08:56 (fourteen years ago) link

I always say mu-NI-cip-al.

The correct answer is obviously:
"Does It Offend You, Yeah?"
Urgh.

Aw, I like the name "personal and the pizzas" - because, well, pizza

gay sauna manthems (LOLK), Thursday, 17 June 2010 21:33 (fourteen years ago) link

The worst thing about Cherry Poppin' Daddies is, at a Warped Tour, I once saw a girl walking around, holding her mother's hand, and she couldn't have been older than ten or so, wearing a Cherry Poppin' Daddies t-shirt. Unto the pure all things are pure, I guess.

TV on the Radio is quite a bad name.

Went to see Future Of The Left the other week, and one support was Ice Sea Dead People, and I really couldn't see how it could get worse, but the first band were called Hold Your Horse Is.

useless chamber, Thursday, 17 June 2010 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link

"Hold Your Horse Is" is also the name of a Hella album.

What about - Gay Against You ?

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 18 June 2010 11:08 (fourteen years ago) link

I've seen Cats and Cats and Cats and they seemed like a nice bunch of kids.

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 18 June 2010 11:09 (fourteen years ago) link

That makes it worse! "Why has your band got such a bad name?" "well we copied it off someone else."

useless chamber, Friday, 18 June 2010 11:11 (fourteen years ago) link

It seems that crappy sub-pun phraselike band names are the order of the day. I don't know what's more irritating, things like Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies, uninspired NRR names like The Hives, The Strokes, The Drums etc or early 90s band names that sound as though they were made to put you off like Toad The Wet Sprocket, Pity The Small Thumbs etc.

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 18 June 2010 11:13 (fourteen years ago) link

I always hated The Dandy Warhols as a name.

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 18 June 2010 11:14 (fourteen years ago) link

kkvgz, Friday, 18 June 2010 12:09 (fourteen years ago) link

It's just that the phrase doesn't roll off the tongue very easily when referring to them as a band.

Same as Acrimony - is it pronounced "acri-many" or "acri-moan-y"?

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 18 June 2010 13:54 (fourteen years ago) link

Fischerspooner
Blossom Toes
The Academy Is...
Jump 'N The Saddle Band
The Mama's and the Papa's (complete with inappropriate possessive apostrophes!)
The Peanut Butter Conspiracy
My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult

Also, so many early rock bands from the late 1950s to early 1960s had incredibly mundane, unimaginative names.

Oh yeah, but at this point "The Beatles" is just a set of phonemes that represent nothing in my mind other than four British dudes.

Any later-day post rock or emo sounding shite like None Of Us Knew We Were Robots or Dust Of A Thousand Charred Pylons or anything with Robot, Bear, Captain or references to ships.
