Waiting for the new Nirvana

Of course, a new Nirvana could have the same effect as the old one. The majors buy up every indie band they can find, many of whom will suck. Within a year or two the harsh light of day will destroy the low key scenes that allow great bands to develop. Hasn't anybody read Our Band Could be Your Life?

How about a mini-Nirvana every couple of years.

At one of their sold-out shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, I stood next to a middle-aged man, who had traveled hours from Philadelphia to see Big Thief, and told me that a band hadn't been this important to him since Nirvana.

I guess every decade needs its own, "this Shins song will change your life."
