None, probably...it's Virgin who have the say so, I guess, but he could always forego royalties out of solidarity etc.

How many of these people would Daily Mail readers actually let into their homes?
― snoball, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:06 (fifteen years ago) link
Even in this degraded company Once Upon A Time is singularly awful. The video for "All The Things She Said" is still the worst video ever.

Perhaps it's the knowledge that Jim Kerr's vocals and mannerisms are primarily responsible for Bono being such a twunt?
― snoball, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:10 (fifteen years ago) link
Even more of a twunt surely?
― Wrinkled Aeneas (Tom D.), Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:11 (fifteen years ago) link
Wasn't it the other way around (xp) - the mythical long walk on the beach that Kerr took with Bono in 1983 following which he decided to turn the Minds into U3?
― Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:12 (fifteen years ago) link
Actually I think it's the other way round, Bono's influence ruined Simple Minds

xpost!
Oh I so remember it (xpost that video)! No need to look.
Bad case of "let's get a soul singer in, we'll look like we're funky!"
I never 'liked' Simple minds, as I didn't really know their early stuff, so don't feel that sense of loss that the people who *did* like them, then watched them turn to shite.
I have sympathy for them, I really do.

(xxxxxpost to myself) I mean on stage/on record. Bono being a twunt anywhere else is entirely his own fault.

joint Kerr/Bono interview from 1983...

I loved and still love everything the Minds did up to and including New Gold Dream. But I remember the horrible sinking feeling in my stomach when Peter Powell premiered "Waterfront" on R1 and we just knew they'd sold out. It felt like a total corporate smack in the face.
― Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:17 (fifteen years ago) link
I think Kerr started it, Bono just took it further. "It", btw, being a self important prick.
― snoball, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:18 (fifteen years ago) link
No no, mullet and flag at Red Rocks was a year ahead of "Waterfront."
― Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 11 September 2008 11:22 (fifteen years ago) link
Bono is definitely the guilty man

Ridiculously small turnout for this poll. Great album, too.
― ilxor, Tuesday, 16 September 2008 01:58 (fifteen years ago) link
The small turnout is probably because we've done "Dare" before.

Also ILX being down
