Rob, I'm pretty sure most here anyone who knows of A-Trak is aware of both his background and his tastes. and what is hazing you for stating things that are obvious and getting excited about someone he considers passe. You'll probably get more hazing from him and others. Don't worry about it. Welcome to ILX.

I made a top 10 of the year so far. Boredom! yaaaay!
1) Sun Kil Moon - April 2) Genghis Tron - Board Up The House 3) The Magnetic Fields - Distortion 4) The Ravonettes - Lust Lust Lust (I'm as surprised as you are) 5) The Goslings - Occasion 6) The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride 7) Beach House - Devotion (again, quite surprised) 8) Autistic Daughters - Uneasy Flowers 9) Jucifer - L'autrichienne 10) Atlas Sound - Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Hear
I'm sure Boris, Portishead, and The Breeders would be on there if I'd heard them.
― jonathan - stl, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:28 (sixteen years ago) link
That Atlas Sounds album sounded pretty shithouse the one play i gave it.
― wilter, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:30 (sixteen years ago) link
I also mixed up the title of that album. its Feel not Hear. I suck.
― jonathan - stl, Monday, 7 April 2008 03:37 (sixteen years ago) link
beach house, hercules, portishead, constantines, destroyer, el guincho, dodos, sian alice group, in that order.

Diary of a 40 yr old still getting kicks from old favorites:
The Fall - Imperial Wax Solvent Nick Cave - Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! Robert Forster - The Evangelist Jay Clarkson - Over The Mountain Jason Ringenberg - Best Tracks And Side Tracks Minisnap - Bounce Around (they're The Bats minus lead singer Robert Scott) They Might Be Giants - Here Come The 123s (fun for kids & adults!)
And a bit from younger bands: British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music? Die! Die! Die! - Promises, Promises
Good but not great: Magnetic Fields - Distortion Billy Bragg - Mr. Love & Justice Ruby Suns - Sea Lion Robyn Hitchcock - Shadowcat Sons & Daughters - This Gift
― Mr. Odd, Friday, 11 April 2008 01:34 (sixteen years ago) link
18th Dye - "Amorine Queen" another good one for the old folk.

i'm so excited about listening to protest the hero and playing mario and drinking beers tonight
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 11 April 2008 04:07 (sixteen years ago) link
2008 > 2007 so far for me. I would feel pretty good putting Hercules & Love Affair, Vampire Weekend, M83, Cut Copy, Kaki King, Atlas Sound, and Kelley Polar in a top 10.
― jaymc, Friday, 11 April 2008 04:59 (sixteen years ago) link
protest the hero is fucking awesome.
need to hear everything jaymc listed
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 11 April 2008 06:24 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah my 4-5 favorite albums this year> 4-5 favorite albums last year, and i thought 07 was crazy strong
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 April 2008 07:05 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm not having the same experience wrt 2008 vs 2007. I dig the Ruby Suns album and I like the Vampire Weekend album a lot, but aside from those two albums nothing is bumping my favorites of 07 off any hypothetical lists.
― pgwp, Friday, 11 April 2008 07:28 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't see anything bumping Portishead out of #1 for me, but I kind of hope something great enough comes along out of nowhere and does. That, whatever it will be, is something I can't wait to hear.

I'm excited about the new Weird Weeds album, I was sure that I knew them from somewhere and I finally remembered it's cause some of 'em played with Jandek. The track I played off of their new CD today was quite nice and I need to listen to the whole record.
― sleeve, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:35 (sixteen years ago) link
also, The Fall's Imperial Wax Solvent is my favorite of the year so far.
― sleeve, Tuesday, 15 April 2008 03:36 (sixteen years ago) link
This new Henry Fiol album, De Cachete, which you can download (in a good quality copy) from his own website, is quite good. This isn't, by a long stretch, my favorite sub-style of salsa, yet I've been listening to it over and over again. (Granted, that's partly due to the general dearth of decent new salsa.) Anyway, it's very much a roots-oriented sound, heavy on acoustic guitar, but Fiol puts his own stamp on it.

how the hell did a new fall album slip under my radar???
