and demi has released two really great pop-rock albums in the past two years (both way better than the two paramore albums i've heard). i don't see why her releasing an R&B album is irrelevant to this thread.
― I have an iTunes playlist called "That Feeling" (Tape Store), Monday, 26 July 2010 13:50 (thirteen years ago) link
i love her albums too but tbh i have a hard time imagining her voice/delivery working in an R&B context, could be like that Ashlee/Timbaland album or something. so i mean, it might work, but until it does I'm not getting my hopes up.
― some dude, Monday, 26 July 2010 14:02 (thirteen years ago) link
also looks like she said "more R&B/pop," which makes me think she's not going to have Ne-Yo or The-Dream write a bunch of slow jams or anything.

Pretty sure she's said that she wants to work with The-Dream. Anyway she was on to some Mariah type shit at times (bridge on got dynamite) on her last album so more rnb is perfectly logical.

Do you still stand by this? The more I listen to it, the more think there's a great album to be constructed from Raymond Vs. Raymond if you cut out a little bit of the pap (and maybe the songs that make Usher sound like a total asshole, like "Lil Freak") and replace them with some of his recent non-album material featured on some of the recent Future of R&B mixes.
― Evan R, Monday, 26 July 2010 20:32 (thirteen years ago) link
i love Lil Freak
― janice (surm), Monday, 26 July 2010 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link
I think it's OK, but Glenn Lewis already used that Stevie Wonder sample to much better effect, and I think the song makes Usher sound like more a bad guy than he intends it to. On Confessions, he played the roll of the flawed by lovable cheat really well, but on Raymond Vs. Raymond he's not nearly as sympathetic. It's hard to take pity on him when he's barking sexual orders at easy conquests. Other songs depict him as a slave to his libido, but on this one he's totally in control, bullying a woman into a threesome she doesn't seem comfortable with. It just seems remarkably mean-spirited.

Are you talking about What's the 901 or is there a new one? I've been enjoying What's the 901. I don't think anything tops "You Should've Killed Me," but every track that pairs her with a rap artist (Gucci, Missy, Three 6 Mafia) really works; she has the brassy presence to hold her own against all of them.
Anybody know if she has a real album on the way? Same goes with Miguel and Dondria; I keep reading about vague album release details for them, but can't find any concretes.

But the singles have mostly been terrible. (Kinda f/w the Algernod joint tho.)
1. I don't think anything tops "You Should've Killed Me,"
i think "where they do that at" is probably the song that jumps out the most. love her cover/response to "nothin' on you", too, and as discussed on some other thread elsewhere, "hit em in the mouth" is totally wild.

k michelle's wtdta is so great, i love the way she slides into the "where they do that at" after you would have expected there to be nothing left in the chorus.

yeah the whole thing just flows so naturally, reminds me of deemi's "soundtrack of my life" from a few years back. love the way she enunciates "video hoes", all those flashes of anger amidst the sadness.

kind of an odd choice for a lead single, but I'm glad she didn't go for "knock me down again" or "still turnin me on," this is classy and soulful but still modern, reminds me of Mary J. Blige's "Kitchen"...Keri's strongpoint is her midtempos anyway, "Where Did He Go," "Quicksand," "Slow Dance" etc.
