The one coming up, or "Witchfinder General"?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:54 (thirteen years ago) link
the one coming upit's from the 80s... JF's favourite decade.

hooray!

WHERE ARE ALL THE BRITISHES WHO SHOULD BE COMMENTING RIGHT NOW? It's not even 8am where I am, and I'm living up to my end of the bargain.
but it's not gonna be well known outside of metal circles..
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 11:57 (thirteen years ago) link
I think the country who invented it is lacking in fans, even on ILX (they were here earlier)
Quiet Riot?

I am trying to keep up, and post, on a train with a piss poor signal.

Hmm, I'd have preferred another Witchfinder General track after all.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:03 (thirteen years ago) link
This is interesting. I think this means that there will be some even higher ranked CF to come. Still, that's a much better track than "Mexican Radio".
― kkvgz, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:06 (thirteen years ago) link
ok...next?
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:14 (thirteen years ago) link
For such a highly rated band, with 10 voters, some people seem to dislike Celtic Frost. Never trust hair metal fans obviously ;)
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I know I yelled loudest about hair metal, but I honestly do like other kinds of metal, etc. just as much. Celtic Frost, though...no way.

I can honestly say I like all of these so far.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 12:26 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, I'm down with most of these so far. Best discovery so far = Diamond Head. I think in my mind I always confused them with King Diamond and stayed away.

Looking forward to listening to these youtubes ASAP, at top volume through my stereo! Only votes from me thus far: GNR, FNM and Soundgarden (odd those 2 tied).

I havent voted for any of these yet. Which either makes my list totally worthless, or else all my songs charted pretty well. Question: how were Manic Street Preachers allowed to make the poll?
― Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I think 4 of mine have placed
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:16 (thirteen years ago) link
including the manics track!
MSP are as hard rock as, e.g., GNR.
― Neil S, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:17 (thirteen years ago) link
I'm at 4 right now as well.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:18 (thirteen years ago) link
and the next track I voted for, which makes 5, i'm amazed and delighted it made it. I guess I stanned hard for it. Which proves you need to do this in all poll threads.

Now I've become one of those guys I was bitching about before, but "Motorcycle Emptiness" shouldn't be within 10 miles of this countdown. FALSE SHIT.

Self-harming has no place in metal.
― A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:29 (thirteen years ago) link
Holy Bible is a heavier, more abrasive record than anything GNR ever did, regardless of what you think of the comparative merits of the 2 bands.
― Neil S, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:30 (thirteen years ago) link
If I'd voted this would be like 500x troo-er

I just went and listened a couple singles from The Holy Bible and, fair enough, they rock (way more than goddamn "Motorcycle Emptiness" anyway), but Appetite For Destruction shits all over those songs from a great height as far as heaviness and abrasiveness is concerned. I don't think those guys even took a shower between November 1987 and March 1989.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:36 (thirteen years ago) link
I love GNR too, but IMO Holy Bible is up there with Joy Division's Closer- but then it came out when I was 15, so I was a sucker for it.
Comparisons aside, I don't think there's much doubt that the MAnics are a hard rock band, and with caveats, one of the best BRitish ones of the last 20 years, again IMO.
― Neil S, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:40 (thirteen years ago) link
" one of the best BRitish ones of the last 20 years, again IMO"
hasnt exactly been a British specialty during that time, has it?
― Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 3 August 2010 13:42 (thirteen years ago) link
and that's not a knock against my british brothers, because i think you guys have historically kicked ass.
