i'm not even that huge of a "single ladies" fan but post-blackout britney spears is seriously some of the most cynical and worthless pop of the past few years

the repetition in womanizer is the best part, along with the buzz-heavy synths. as i've always said, womanizer burns like a stick of dynamite. yes, i've always said that.

repetition is often repped for in other contexts.

I don't get a 'hammer to the head' from Single Ladies at all - it has a well-defined verse, and yea the chorus repeats a bit at the end, but no more than any other pop tune. Womanizer (even though I like it to a degree) is monotonous from the jump, and far more guilty of a sledgehammer to the forehead affect. Even the verse blurs into the rest of the song.

the falloff after blackout for britney is pretty shocking.

well, i think "single ladies" has an explicit "hammer over the head" moment, and it's that bleepy sound effect in the beat, which i happen to think is awesome

but i understand what ramzi is saying, also i think his defense of "womanizer" is a good one

yes, i see that rev :) but i wasn't talking about the lyrics -- i think the single ladies beat and production are what make it so belligerently bouncy.

"womanizer" isn't terrible but don't think i'd notice if it had suddenly never existed, two years on. there was some ok stuff on circus though, as cynical and rote as it was - "amnesia", "kill the lights", um.

it consists of one hastily-released rush job put together to take advantage of her medication working! i don't think any given britney album indicates a "direction" per se.

Love everything about both these songs. The only respect in which "Single Ladies" clearly wins over "Womanizer" is the video.

The video for 'Womanizer' is simultaneously WTF o_O and so Britney at the same time.

i basically have never come to terms w/ britney as a concept (even if i like a couple of her songs) so take my opinions on her with a grain of salt

Radar was probably the best song on circus.

they completely botched it up when they remixed it for circus imo

can't remember exactly but it just sounded thicker, less crisp, as i remember. the vocal more buried. it was because they were contractually obliged to the songwriter to release it as a single, but britney was too busy being sectioned &c for that to be an option during the blackout cycle, so they shoved it on circus and hoped no one would notice/care

i know this is fair, but blackout was such an album, and despite its at times incoherence, it still felt like a pretty definite document of something. even if that something was basically this
