manuel (manuel), Friday, 3 February 2006 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Achso YSI?

dogbone, Saturday, 4 February 2006 00:57 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm sure there are better "when the beat drops" moments in microhouse than Ichso, but I can't think of any right now.

Lukas (lukas), Saturday, 4 February 2006 03:13 (eighteen years ago) link

this is what it must feel like to get fucked. by a massive kick drum.

Lukas (lukas), Saturday, 4 February 2006 03:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Ichso Duso Erso Sieso
I'm like You're like He's like She's like

Hot Villalobos in anyone's language.

Benn Glazier, Saturday, 4 February 2006 03:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm with Susan. New Villalobos is a bore. bring back 808 the Bass Queen.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Saturday, 4 February 2006 04:04 (eighteen years ago) link

"a bore"? c'mon, you've gotta try a little harder than that.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Saturday, 4 February 2006 18:59 (eighteen years ago) link

maybe he should put some female vocals on the top of all his shit and stop trying so hard. if he'd only make straight forward club tunes with diva's he'd be so much better. all this fractured melody and intricate drum programming is boring. we need Jacques Lu Cont remixes of Villalobos for the lazy listeners.

aNonMouse, Saturday, 4 February 2006 19:18 (eighteen years ago) link

his DJ sets have plenty of divas

a, Saturday, 4 February 2006 19:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Aye, what he needs is more divas, and some big synth lines, and some saxophone, and some "funky" loops etc. etc. :/ No thanks!

Achso will probably be one of the best releases of this year in any genre, dance or otherwise. You can almost sense some sort of teleology to it. A departure (though not completely) from his early stuff but basically the logical conclusion of the Au Harem d'Archimede. Achso seems to be the apex, the full realisation of a unique vision. One has to wonder where he goes from here.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Saturday, 4 February 2006 19:39 (eighteen years ago) link

can somebody clean up the mess this guy just made all over the place

blunt (blunt), Saturday, 4 February 2006 21:12 (eighteen years ago) link

i didn't really think it was a complete bore, just that it has potential to be boring. it probably depends on what you're listening for.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 4 February 2006 22:28 (eighteen years ago) link

so has anyone heard his rhythm & sound remix yet ("see mi yah")???

breakfast pants (disco stu), Sunday, 5 February 2006 00:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Harvell. maybe if you'd spent less time stroking and loving your physical copy of 'Achso' and more time listening to it, you would have noticed the mislabelled MP3s before submitting your Pitchfork review. (looking at the tracklisting would have sufficed.)

PS Villalobos: Techno's first genius of the 21st Century? I thought he was overrated.

a, Sunday, 5 February 2006 00:13 (eighteen years ago) link

shit, i fear my ichso babbling was for sieso.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 5 February 2006 00:20 (eighteen years ago) link

PS : that would be "21st Century : Villalobos' first genius techno"

blunt (blunt), Sunday, 5 February 2006 00:23 (eighteen years ago) link

AND i would be so much easier for us theives if he would have said the approprate title atleast once during each the song. like he couldn't work that in! hmmmmph!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 5 February 2006 00:24 (eighteen years ago) link

wait a second-
i have ichso at 11:58. is this actually ichso?

time to buy, it i suppose

lf (lfam), Sunday, 5 February 2006 07:48 (eighteen years ago) link

KEY FOR CHEAPSKATES + THE TURNTABLE IMPAIRED:

8A Sieso 11.58
8B Erso 11.19
10A Duso 12.49
10B Icho 13.44

a, Sunday, 5 February 2006 11:57 (eighteen years ago) link

fandango's post makes sense to me now. i had these backwards.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 5 February 2006 22:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I still get the same general existential issues coming from all these tracks. But the real Ichso is a really REALLY beautiful beautiful not boring at all track and much more integrated than Sieso-throughout most of it, feels dominated by 1 voice. Things get blurred more on Duso and Sieso is just weirdness for me.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 5 February 2006 23:10 (eighteen years ago) link

???!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ricardo villalobos is replacing my steely dan obsession (which never as satisfying as it should have been anyway).

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 5 February 2006 23:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Hmm yeah i had those tracknames backwards too.

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 6 February 2006 06:14 (eighteen years ago) link

LIKE IT MATTERS. LIKE EVERYONE WASN'T JUST THINKING/SAYING 'THE ONE WITH THE GEETAR' ETC.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 06:16 (eighteen years ago) link

My favorite tracks on this are the ones that end in 'o'

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 6 February 2006 15:33 (eighteen years ago) link

my favorite days are the ones that end in "day"

james van der beek (dubplatestyle), Monday, 6 February 2006 15:36 (eighteen years ago) link

By god I think you've gotten it.

deej.. (deej..), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:10 (eighteen years ago) link

My favorite ILM threads are the ones that end in a flurry of random pictures of kittens.

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:00 (eighteen years ago) link

did I kill this thread? I'm surprised there's not more discussion.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 6 February 2006 22:39 (eighteen years ago) link

There's a sinister streak to Achso that I didn't pick up on until last night. I listened to it in headphones while dozing off to sleep, woke up about midway through the third track and felt a pronounced sense of vertigo that left me completely creeped out.

I love the dynamics in this thing though, it's as if every little percussive sound was individually animated.

jeffery (jeffery), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 00:41 (eighteen years ago) link

ihttp://math.berkeley.edu/~vfr/IMAGES/kitten.jpg

lf (lfam), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 05:45 (eighteen years ago) link

i was going to post the first google result for "kitten" but, uh...

i can't understand why that is there.

lf (lfam), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 05:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Although Achso is really the best work of Ricardo's career so far, it's really a shame this glorious landscaped music gets closed-up in vynil format or mp3 downloa(n)ding. This record deserves a bigger audience, and i hope those tracks will get a CD release someday, maybe as a part of a future album...

Jasl, Wednesday, 8 February 2006 11:03 (eighteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
i've decided this album is the best thing i've heard in the past 2 years.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:07 (eighteen years ago) link

Which album?

Cousin yogurt beard (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Achso has persuaded me that I definitely need to hear "Au Harem.." after all too (not that I'm sure that's what Susan's referring to).

worst iPod case scenario (fandango), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't really have anything negative, analytical or cautious to say about Achso anymore either, it's just fantastic! :)

worst iPod case scenario (fandango), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:26 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry, i'm talkin bout Achso.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Isn't it...an EP?

Cousin yogurt beard (nordicskilla), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah. But it's 40+ minutes. Virtually an album.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:47 (eighteen years ago) link

I heard his Daktari remix recently, and it's a complete headfuck, and a curiously addictive one at that.

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 23 February 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago) link

It's album price!

worst iPod case scenario (fandango), Thursday, 23 February 2006 22:04 (eighteen years ago) link

...and a bit more (where i got it). but easylee worth every cent.

willem -- (willem), Friday, 24 February 2006 07:23 (eighteen years ago) link

i think he may be playing with you when he calls it an ep, yogurt.

lf (lfam), Friday, 24 February 2006 07:38 (eighteen years ago) link

the au harem was an EP, too. and most import 12"s run $10-12 apiece anyway, so why is this thread suddenly nattering abt price?

Beta (abeta), Friday, 24 February 2006 22:11 (eighteen years ago) link

The au harem was an album, it has nine tracks.

jimnaseum (jimnaseum), Friday, 24 February 2006 22:29 (eighteen years ago) link

When it first came out, I believe it was billed as a "mini-album." Even if it is 70 minutes long or something.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 24 February 2006 22:46 (eighteen years ago) link

autechre's ep7 is 60+ minutes, without the secret track.
