i play love/hate to ppl who are massively into love king and they don't get it at all. like that kinda massively produced terius opera is amazing but how can you not like the gorgeous simple love songs? don't get it
― whitney from mtv's the city (tpp), Sunday, November 28, 2010 7:32 PM (19 minutes ago)
yeah it's funny this woman i work with was playing love king at work one day so i burned her his first two and electrik red's - she was already familiar with the singles but didn't really dig either of the first two albums, i didn't get it at all.
i still consider love king to be pretty clearly his weakest album but i enjoyed it pretty well in the car on the way back to school today - title track has grown on me a lot since way back when it leaked - i think it's a great opener now. parts of the album still drag for me, unfortunately - apart from a few great moments i can't get into the first "sex intelligent", "nikki pt. 2" is a waste of a great first 60 seconds, "panties to the side" is just....(although i think i said once that i do love the "...call me" -> *"turnt out" starts*, likely just because i'm so glad it's over), and "february love" is still pretty lifeless for me.
"fila", "yamaha", and "turnt out" are obv among his best, tho

i dunno i was def of the "it's his weakest album" school of thought but now i'm not sure. it's def my album of the year and i think its pretty fucking solid until 'panties' which is just ..... * euggggh *

it's not so far ahead, i just remember it so fondly. i'm srsly coming around to the idea that 'love king' is actually his best

when i step away from love king and think about it rationally it's obv his weakest album but when i listen to it, it just gives me so much pure pleasure - it's kind of like terius just focused everything on giving fans of his sound that hit

massively back into 'love king'. haven't listened to it much since it was released but last few weeks i'm just obsessed again. sex intelligence -> abyss is seriously the best shit he's ever done.
same here, i busted out love king for the first time since summer today and it sounded faaaantastic
agree w/ lex also

I still haven't really given Love King time - is it worth buying? Where in London is good to buy it of a lunchtime? The HMV up the road is useless.

regardless of quality it's weird to hear anecdotes of people who only have/like Love King -- it's by far his least successful album and i would've assumed people getting into him more recently would have done so largely based on the reputation of the first 2 albums?

how would we rank terius' singles as lead artist, then?
was going to put this on al's poll thread but thought he might not appreciate yet more terius talk there, and there aren't really enough to merit a thread of their own. thought it might be interesting though as terius' singles don't tend to be the most talked-about of his songs, and are def his most "generic"...anyway i go:

― J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 July 2011 05:45 (twelve years ago) link
also the unintended side effect of "give me everything" is that ne-yo's next album is totally gonna sound like pitbull's album
ne-yo did say an interview recently that that was the last housey song he's doing for now and he's swearing that style off, but yeah i'll believe it when i see it. anyway ne-yo has a great voice, the unreliability of his output hasn't really diminished that.

that's not a good metric since, as j0rdan said, they've had parallel declines, and i personally don't give a shit about much the-dream has done in the past year besides "Speechless" and "1 + 1"

"Give Me Everything" would be one of my favorite songs of the year if you swapped out Pitbull for Jeezy.
― Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:10 (twelve years ago) link
that's...a really weird idea, dude
― dread the flopson (some dude), Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:46 (twelve years ago) link
It is, but there's some precedent for it. Jeezy's guest verses on Polow/Lloyd/Usher tracks have been really great; it's not his preferred subject matter, but the guy raps well about being in a club. Plus his hardness would undercut the song's sappiness.
― Evan R, Sunday, 17 July 2011 14:56 (twelve years ago) link
eh, i've never heard him rap on a tempo like that, at least not well -- when he does do good fast flows it's usually still over a slow beat. i might prefer Jeezy overall but Pit's been rapping over uptempo club beats his whole career and "Give" is one of his best to date (even if his rapping's been better in the past). Jeezy is one of the last rappers i ever want to see on the Eurohouse bandwagon.
